T&T and Bahrain played out an intriguing 1-1 draw in Port of Spain which certainly puts Bahrain in the driver's seat ahead of Wednesday's second leg.

The visitors started the game very cautiously but as the first half went on they grew in confidence and composure and created the best chance of the half. Edwards was very dangerous on the right wing for the Trinis but his entertaining dribbling didn't result in an end product.

Trinidad and Tobago tried to take the game to Bahrain at the start of the second period but Latepe, Yorke and John played below their ability and Bahrain took the lead. Lapse marking on a corner kick gave Salman Isa the space required to head home a crucial away goal. The goal seemingly sprung the home side into action and Chris Birchall came up with an absolutely brilliant equaliser. The ball fell to Birchall about 25 yards out and he smacked a spectacular first time volley beyond the reach of the Bahrain keeper.

In the end I think that 1-1 is a disappointing result for T&T but perhaps a fair one as Bahrain didn't deserve to lose.

AH fvck... T&T with a lucky equalizer..
How was it lucky? More like amazing. That volley required skill of the highest order and that's exactly what Birchall produced.

That's a good result Nawaf. I think your team has the steering wheel now. I hope they won't mess it up, good luck for you and them on wednesday, I hope they make it.

If they do, will you be coming to Germany?
Hopefully we won't.. I'll be there in the stadium to make sure they don't.. :D

Oh, and yes, when we make it, I'm definitely going to be in Germany..

Hell, even if we don't make it, I'll probably still go.. :D

You know what would be cool? If the next Bahrain and TT match finish 0-0 and Bahrain Qualify....They will be maybe the only team in history to qualify with only ONE win!! (Against N. Korea):D:D

:lazy:
..Not exactly our preferred path to the WC, but if it happens to be the only one, then so be it..

Not really detracting from the team. I feel that Bahrain is my team just as it is yours ( I am sure you feel the same about saudi)... as I will never forget the sight of the Bahraini players running around the stadium holding the Saudi flag when they won Iran in WC2002 qualifications. Which granted us the qualification seat:D

I'm still convinced that he was lucky it got in..
So was Zidane lucky to score that volley against Leverkusen in the CL final years back? Was Rooney's world-class strike against Newcastle Utd last season lucky? I don't think so. They were low percentage chances but Zizou and Wayno scored because of supreme technical expertise. I believe that the same applies to Birchall's goal last night.
