Just to set the record straight, I'm not in the Suns camp on this one. I just think it's stupid that people wish that the upcommers in the Serie A are traded out of the league, I'd rather see them in the bigger Italian clubs. By all means, Inter and Milan in a relegation battle is a very noble aspiration, but I'd just prefer them to have the relegation battle in a league which is attractive for the players we want to sign.
It's true that it would make the league more attractive to foreign players but our current situation more or less makes us more attractive to all Italian players and all foreign talent currently in Serie A.
We're trending towards Bayern territory where everyone in your league aspires to play for your club. That is much more favourable to us IMO because it's not like Serie A will cease to produce some players. Serie A will always have some decent players coming up through the ranks that we can snatch up.
If we can ever manage to develop a strangle hold on Serie A and just keep winning and winning, eventually we can build a big enough brand and prestige to generate impressive revenues. From there, we can buy foreign players as well.
Bayern model. They buy Mandzukic, Dante, Pizarro, Gustavo, Neuer, Klose, Podolski, Van Buyten, etc for modest figures domestically then they can splash on foreign transfers.
But the key is the youth sector. When you are the team every young player aspires to play on then you can build a stable of youngsters much easier. I don't want to compete with Milan or Inter on foreign signings but I definitely do not want to compete for any talented youngsters.
Young kids always cheer for the best teams. It's an ambitious goal, but if we can dominate Serie A to an extent that Milan and Inter become increasingly irrelevant, we can be seen as the only worth while attraction to young players, just like Bayern.
Then even when they are born and bread from our biggest competition, like Dortmund, there is still nothing stopping us from taking them (Gotze, Lewandowski).
