If I was forced to choose between Kenneth Lay bilking me out of all of my retirement savings or some homeless guy on foodstamps getting by on a freebie, I wouldn't be complaining about the foodstamps first.
you know I wasnt referring to homeless people

This is my first username change since registering 2 years ago. I thought it'd be amusing to switch username, avatar, location, name, all info, signature, and user title all at once without warning :D

Hey,

I was wondering, if their is any rivalry between states. Here in Belgium, we have two big parties of land, called Flanders and Wallonie, and there is quite a bit rivalry between us. (Im from Flanders btw :p)

Not unless you are talking college football, there is not.

Most of the land battles ended at the end of the Civil War in 1865.

here is a 17 year old kid trying to tell me whats what...

grow up, get into the REAL world, get a JOB, and then see how you feel when you are taxed to death to supplement the incomes of the lazy and worthless, THEN come back here and tell me what you think
I'm 19. And the real world according to you is some weird place where George Bush is a just dictator, jobs are everywhere but you can't keep the money you earn as that goes completely to bastards who don't want to work, the war in Iraq is justified and where you can sign up for the next crusade. So no thank you, I'm okay where I am.

On the issue of taxing I support Vinnie. It could be extremely annoying to break your back working and watch some lazy buggers go off to the Welfare Office every Friday and get a pay cheque.

It's not like it's a generous welfare country. Now if you were living in Sweden for instance then I would understand the frustration. US welfare sucks balls. Here, either you make it or you break it.

I invite you to come live in New York state where we have the largest welfare bill in the entire country, AND a medicaid bill bigger than that of Texas and California COMBINED !!!

And its all because we have bleeding heart liberals in charge of this state, who think its ok if you dont want to work, the county you live in and the state will take care of you, by taking the working classes money......

Yep, here in Western and Northern Europe, the welfare policy is much more elaborated. People with no job, can actually survive, and dont forget handicaped people and so on.

also, our health insurance is practically free

To be honest, I would think that a bunch of slackers getting by on medicaid isn't as financially wasteful as the gross waste and mismanagement in the American health care system in general. First things first.

It's too easy to let your heart run political policy instead of your head. Emotionally people are irritated by their lazy neighbors -- and spend too much time thinking about the Joneses and blaming them for their problems. But in reality, the biggest benefit is often the bigger picture surrounding their own personal situation.

I know my health care dollars are getting gouged far more by administrative, legislative, and paperwork b.s. in a multi-payer system than by some fat ass collecting pills on the public dole.

but isnt the real reason the increasing seniority of the population and the dearth of parental social support which makes it that most citizens dont really see parental care as a priority

Medicaid includes entitlement programs I believe, which is how it differs form Medicare. I think you're confusing it with Medicare, which requires you to be 65 or older.

The Medicare problem in New York is easy to solve, however: keep sending them to Florida. :D

Oh trusut me i know, i got a family of doctors. Medicaid branded the best insurance policy out there is very attractive to the self employed families and those with undocumented income; most common practice is to have your unemployed spouse file taxes seperately and bam your kids got the best care money can buy. but i think even more burdening is the fact that the elderly, who are economically non productive unless they keep investing their money, take up much resource with no pragmatic benefit in sight; i believe that is more debilitating than the petty fiscal crookery called medicaid

I'll agree with that. It's also the motivation behind why countries in Europe are embarking on anti-smoking campaigns that I never would expect: Italy, France, even Portugal now. The public tax base cannot keep up with an aging base of cancer victims, so preventative medicine is suddenly in order.
