I'm more confused about the 'r' in Thuram, because I can't say that French 'r' sound

as fo BM, I just take the easy way out and say 'Munich' :D

Oh that's so wrong. If you translate the second part, you should also translate the first part, which would result into:

    Bavaria Munich

    ;)

I've always pronounced it and heard it pronouonced as its spelt Bronk-horst. Naturally, a Dutchman could answer that with a little more conviction.

As far as I know, in Brazilian Portugese, an R at the start of the word is pronounced like an H.
So it would be Hon-aldou etc.
Not sure about Continental Portugese though, I think it's probably the same.

You're spot on about Brazilian Portuguese (Recife as "He-SEE-feh", e.g.). But continental Portuguese pronounces the "r" like, well, an "r". Or more shrill, actually, such as "R-r-r-on AHL d(u)". (I put the last 'u' in parentheses since many continental Portuguese shorten and whisper a trailing "o" so much that it is almost inaudible.)
