I know we are all unhappy with Trap and with good reason but lets be honest which Italian manager will go there and not do the same thing
I am not talking about qualifiers, I am talking about when they get to the tournament itself, look at Lippi, whenever a big game comes along he changes formation to counter the opposition in short he becomes defensive
The same with Capello , anyway he is defensive no matter the opposition, Ranieri will put wingers in his team and tell them to defend, Del Neri has a chievo team which is high on pace but low on technique and he is excalty the same as Sacchi where fitness is everything and ability counts for little
Cosmi, who knows if he gets a big job if he too will not become more cautious
No the problem is not just Trapatoni, its the fear factor of losing which I am not sure, Italy can overcome
Before he got the job everyone was saying he was born to do it, his qualifying was alright up until he was reaching the finishing line and then it all goes pear shaped, he became overly cautious bringing on Gatusso after an hour to replace a striker, and in the wc itself he was so scared of Cruz of Ecuador , he changed tactics and that was it
Mate you are wrong, Trap has always favoured a 4-3-1-2 from all the time I can remember, at Juve it was Baggio behind Ravanelli and Vialli or Moeller behind Baggio and Vialli, at Fiorentina , it was Costa behing Bati and Edmundo
His first game for Italy he played Totti behing Dp and Inzaghi and in all the qualifiers he played mostly Totti behing Inzaghi and Dp or Inzaghi and Delvecchio
He probably got scared in the wc or he changed it becos it does not work with Vieri in the side
