Season ticket seats are always reported as sold, because essentially they are. If thousands of bright sparks don't want to attend (or give to others) something they have already paid for then it's not the fault of the club.

that's not the gray area though and no one has a problem with that. it gets tricky when tickets sold is presented as equal to attendance, when it often isn't the case as the study shows.
