Docs: Prognosis unclear for Pessotto

TURIN, Italy (AP) - Doctors treating Gianluca Pessotto, the former Juventus player who fell from the club's headquarters earlier this week, said Thursday they're not yet sure he will live.

Doctors have put Pessotto - appointed Juventus team manager due to the match-fixing scandal - in a drug-induced coma and hooked him up to a ventilator, according to the Molinette hospital. He is in a very serious but stable condition.

Pessotto fell Tuesday from a three-story building at the club's headquarters in Turin. Italian media reported that he was holding rosary beads and landed on a car, but Juventus has declined to comment.

The 35-year-old Pessotto has undergone surgery to stabilize a pelvis fracture, and was given transfusions to replace blood lost through hemorrhaging, according to the hospital. A previous operation also cleared a blood clot. Doctors have ruled out any injuries to his spine.

German players praying for Pessotto

BERLIN, June 29 (Reuters) - Germany's World Cup players are praying for Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto, coach Juergen Klinsmann said on Thursday.

Pessotto, the former defender, is in a serious condition after falling from a window at the Serie A club's headquarters.

"We've been talking about him at the team hotel," Klinsmann, who spent part of his playing career in Italy, said at a news conference on Thursday. "We're thinking about him, praying for him and hoping he gets well. It's terrible for the Italian team to have one of their best friends in this situation."

Germany play Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals in Berlin on Friday. Italy play Ukraine in Hamburg later the same day and the Germans and the Italians could meet in the semi-finals.

I found this, don't know if it's true :

"The circumstances are now clear. He was on a car and called his wife, they had a light quarrel cause they had to leave for the seaside while Pessotto wanted to stay in Torino in order to prepare the new season. Then Pessotto went to offices of Juventus in Via Galileo Ferraris, but did not enter his office, he went to a room just under the roof, emptied his pockets (portable phone, keys...), seized a rosary and threw himsef out of a dormer window. He hit one or two cars in the car park and that somehow saved his life, but he fell on his back so he has lots of fractures there and an enormous hematoma (he also has multiple fractures in one leg, jaw fracture, etc. etc. ). He was still conscious and as soon as people rushed at the scene of the accident he said "what have I done!". "
