What if I don't want my CB to score goals. I think I would have prefered if you mentioned his ability to cover, lead a defensive line, understanding of tactics of the game, big game clutchness. That is what a CB needs. Not Speed and goal scoring ability. I know he is very talented, but in the CL games he looked exploited. My only hope is that he was running around like he was becuase of the lack of any good defensive partners on his squad. And not because he is a typical, over-aggressive modern day defender.
In the CL games I watched, he was impressive. Pepe definitely has great understanding of the game and he is the leader of Porto's defensive line, at the age of 24-25. His pace is also a big asset, the fact that he's an attacking threat on set pieces because of his aerial ability makes him even more complete. I don't see how you can make that a liability.

It seems people expect him to be a Lucio because he's Brazilian, but Pepe has never played professional football in Brazil. He came to Portugal at a young age so his defending is more Portuguese than anything else.

I belive we should use miccoli to take Barzagli From Palermo and leave pepe alone...
Barzagli is italian, and proved he's the next leader of itay's Defence.
Miccoli+5-10 mil euro and we have Barzagli instead of offering crazy amounts of money on pepe.
Agree 100%

Pepe is vastly overrated on these forums. He is very good and has potential, but I don't think he is the player we need ATM. I would prefer Milito and Barzagli partnership to any partnership with Pepe in it. Milito and Barzagli are keys.

The asking price on Pepe is high, but he's I guarentee he'll be considered one of the best cb's around in no time. His speed and goal scoring are compliments to his defensive abilities. Mourinho even recently gave an interview about him, and raved about his qualities, but mentioned that the price would be quite high and Chelsea weren't looking to break the bank this season. Plus it would be difficult to find playing to for three premium cb's. He doesn't want another Gallas situation.

welcome portogal! :pint:

I think the Pepe rumors are just a diversion so we can lower Milito's price.

If we can get him I'd be very happy though but I don't see Miccoli sign for you guys because Benfica fans will beat the hell out of him. :p

It wouldn't be the 1st though that a Benfica player goes to Porto hey? :D

anyway, what's the situation with the "Golden Whistle" thing? We've been stripped of 2 scudetti and sent to Serie B for much much less if what I read on the papers are correct.
