Stop denying it. It is what we are sadly. Just gotta live with it.
What is 'a seller team' ?
Is Madrid a seller team cause it sold Morata ? Is Barcelona a seller team cause it sold Neymar ? Is juventus not a seller team cause it rejected a 160mil offer for Dybala ?
Marotta builds a solid core, and exchanges players around it. What is defined as 'core' may change. He always makes sure that we have our core, but can exchange any player outside it, and we never weaken. Certain area's might regress a bit, others improve, the result is status quo or slight improvement.
Marotta uses this in a specific way. Sell players, can be anyone, to replace with others. He consistantly refreshes the team in this way.
1) 2010/2011 -> 2014/2015 : The big team was build. Only sales of inferior players.
2) 2015/2016
Base : Central axis (BBC + Marchisio & Pogba)
Out : Vidal, Pirlo, Tevez
IN : Dybala, Khedira, Mandzukic, Sandro, Cuadrado
Before : 3-5-2 / 442 : Very hard working formation with limited creativity and poor wings
After : 3-5-2 : The idea was to vastly improve the wings, with Sandro and Cuadrado, Mandzukic as the main focal point and Dybala to replace tevez. Midfield lost 2 players, but got Khedira. Pogba was about to explode, Marchisio was improving. The central axis regressed but our wings were significantly better
Conclusion : changed from a full centeral to a wing and center team. Team ended up having more potential than the previous one, unlucky in Munich
3) 2016/2017
Base : Central axis (BBC + Dybala)
OUT : Pogba & Morata
IN : Pjanic, Higuain, Alves
Before : Allrounded 3-5-2
After : textbook 4-2-3-1 : Idea was to sell Pogba, but replace by Pjanic to change the style and limit the further central regression. Adding a worldclass centreforward, and a proven worldclass rightback. Team ended up in a fantastic 4-2-3-1 formation that steamrolled to the final's end, untill the lack of depth caused it to run out of said steam
4) 2017/2018
Base : Central axis (bc - Pjanic - Dybala - Higuain with trustworthy left side and issuefull right side
OUT : Alves, Bonucci
IN : Costa, Bernadeschi, Matuidi,
Before : Insane 4-2-3-1 with absolutely no depth and inconsistant RW
After : 4-2-3-1 / 433(f9) with midfield and offensive depth. For the first time we sold two players we didnt planned to. Bonucci and alves were shipped out. Big talent Rugani is ready to take over and Howedes was bought as the experienced backup. While RB is a major concern, we fixed the previous weaknesses of the formation and can now play two different formations with depth for both. Potentially incredibly talent increase offensively
Before Bonucci and Alves, we sold and changed the team to fix previous issues while compensating for what we sold. We will continue to do so. I could see us sell Sandro next year to get two high class fullbacks for each side for example.
We are not in the situation financially where we keep several players to astronomic wages. We'll change and improve.
If we had adressed Rb,tho max has uncomfortable trust in DS, we would have again improved the team considerably.
A seller team, would have sold Sandro for 70mil, Dybala for 160 mil, Pjanic for 80 mil and than wonder why everyone asks 100 mil for Sturaro's and Quagliarella's
