Payet is great but he's more than capable of playing out wide. Has mostly played out there trough out his career, even last season he played there more than trough the middle. If playing Payet trough the middle means you have to bench your two most talented players it's totally not worth it.

Payet is great but he's more than capable of playing out wide. Has mostly played out there trough out his career, even last season he played there more than trough the middle. If playing Payet trough the middle means you have to bench your two most talented players it's totally not worth it.

The problem with playing him out wide is that he cuts inside too much and you end up relying on grandpa Evra and the CF drifting to the left to provide some width .
That's why you saw Giroud the donkey on the left at times against Romania, struggling to run with the ball and not having the slightest clue how to beat a defender or deliver a cross . the possibility of having Payet in the middle with proper wingers / wide forwards on his side sounds very enticing .

It's not an easy decision to take, but many teams had to drop world class 10's to play a 3 man midfield , and many quality midfielders were dropped because they didn't fit neither in a double pivot nor behind the strikers ( Pogba's case ) .
