Just for clearing it up, we didn't have to match PSG's offer in order to get Verratti. We could have got him before they came into play.

Marotta completed the deal, but Raiola fucked it up because it involved Bouy and he refused to let his player get co-owned by Empoli.

Then Pescara wanted some more compensation, and Marotta spent weeks lowballing them for 1/1.5M.

And just then PSG came calling.

So yep, Marotta pretty much lost the guy.

But to be fair to him, Verratti was just a promise that time, he is a very diminutive player, and it wasn't clear if he could become that good.

And all other Italian teams lost the kid.

But the fact remains that Marotta had him at this hands and let him scape through his fingers.

It was a good decision for Verratti to go to PSG. We had Marchisio, Vidal and Pirlo plus the rising star Pogba. There was absolutely no chance for him to play that much at the age of 19 with us. When he went to PSG at first he got a lot of playing time and soon he established himself among the starting line up. I doubt that we would give him so much playing time and in the end he could have turn out to be another wasted italian talent. Big Italian clubs should trust more in their youngsters.

Should we have benched an established top player to give Verratti playing time?

according to both l'équipe and le parisien, pogba was one of the worst french player against serbia. it seems that he's completely out of form for club and country. let's hope he gets his act together asap. we need him, desperately.

the whole media is acting like juve is finished, let them talk this shit about players leaving us.

we are hated and i love it.
If it were only that we were hated. It's that they think no player of any good quality would want to stay in their right mind.

Yup. Verratti kept saying he wanted to come to Juve, but we hesitated too much
The fact was that we were his and also Pescara's first choice. The thing was that we already had Pirlo for free ,Marchisio and Vidal. Also I am not sure if Pogba, also for free was here. And Pescara asked 12 mil.He was a prospect but unproven player so we decided not to buy him.In that circumstances I can't blame anyone for doing that.

No, and that's why it was best for him to go to PSG.
I don't know if you have followed the whole story but the deal was to co-own him and let him stay at Pescara in a similar deal to Berardi which we did few yrs ago.
But Buoy ruined it by refusing to go to Pescara as part of the deal.

That's why it was the best decision to go to a top club that will play him regularly and not a minor serie a team like Pescara. Verratti took the best decision for his development. Good for him.

Verratti’s agent Donato Di Campli also spoke to Sky Sport Italia and revealed this scenario was much closer than anyone had expected.

“It’s no secret that Marco is a Juventus supporter. Juventus and the player had agreed terms, but the Bianconeri couldn’t agree with Pescara because a player as part of the exchange had refused to join the Biancazzurri.

“Troisi’s wages were too high and Juventus didn’t want to pay for part of that, which Pescara would not accept.
Troisi was the problem.
