The Negative Boy Band Brigade will see this move in one of the following ways:

-he wanted to leave and all we could offer was the #10 to keep him because we can't afford it.

-we are all too blind to see an apparent smokescreen from Marotta over what is claimed to be a massive mercato failure and Pogba is only a year long bandaid fix

-he is somehow guaranteed to leave next summer but it will be the clubs fault for letting him go and disgracing the #10

-we all witnesses Galliani today which means we are going to sell next summer and saving face to fans because we aren't an oil rich club

-Pogba as #10 must mean without the shadow of a doubt he will be our AM and it's only Marotta trying to save face

Have I missed anything?
We are selling two 10's in 2 seasons in a row.

Pogba with #10 is definitely weird, but its also kind of cool and almost warranted.

He MUST have told our directors that he wants to make this HIS club; I'm not so certain that hes going to leave anymore.

I would have rather bought Verratti and made him #10, but whatever.

Would you still consider it a good move if (when) Pogba requests to leave next Summer?
It would only further people's beliefs that a number is simply that. A number. If you put a gun to my head, I don't think Pogba would have done this and view it as a short term solution.

Changing his kit number doesn't make him better, or more of a fantasista type of player.

If anything, he has put more pressure on himself by requesting that number. This really is a high risk move for him from a perception standpoint. He has basically come out and claimed that he is ready to carry this team on his back. No one just arbitrarily takes the number 10 because its a cool number. Anyone with even a minimal amount of knowledge about this club knows just how precious that number is.

What does my, or another fan's opinion on whether the club will sign a top player have any bearing to how the club sees its supporters?

For the record, I don't think they are going to sign a ready made top player. Could they sign a player with the potential to be a top player? Possibly.
Because everyone expected us to improve this year and we actually got worse. Something's gotta give, and this was a good opportunity for some fresh air. Again, I would gladly take it back if the club shows more ambition and determination towards getting a top player before the mercato ends. As things stands, I see it as a desperate move.

On paper, it appears that we got worse due to two player movements. One that was basically the worst kept secret in Europe (Tevez), which I would have loved for him to stay one more year, but getting Dybala so soon in the market, even before it officially started, should have sent strong signals.

The other (Vidal) we were blindsided on. However, the 2nd shoe hasn't dropped yet, in the form of who is brought in to the squad prior to the end of the mercato.

We agree here. The number 10 is not just another number for us like Arsenal for example. Just look at hiw it was handled by Juve's PR team. It is a big deal of course.

The problem is that any one can make an educated guess that Pogba 99% won't be here next year. How would that look for us, selling two number 10s in the same amount of years?

Amateurs.

We really should be offering to match any other wage offer he receives.
