what a sad final.... why you are remembering me that thing.
i saw the final with my fanmily in my house...all supporting italy but one annoying friend who was rooting for spain, (i invited him to my house in hopes that italy was going to win and i was going to mock him)
oh my,... that plan went soooo wrong,
My story:
I saw the England game in Little Italy in Toronto. I was still living in a suburb at the time (now I live in the city so WC 2014 was easier, but much more painful) and took the trek into the city for that game. It was great. I saw Pirlo crush England's soul with that chip, and then we celebrated in the streets. Two of my friends are English and German mixes so that was a good start. Then the Germany game.... I was working, but the financial district didn't care, we all watched the game in our offices. Italy owned Germany, and I was happy. I also had huge bragging rights over those two English/German friends in back to back victories.
Then Spain...
I decided I'd watch in little Italy again. Unfortunately, we got there a bit late, and my friends were cheap, meaning no one wanted to pay the 20 dollar cover (I would have) that the bars were charging. We had to look in the fringes of Little Italy, so we ended up in this Bar, Sneakie Ds that served cheap Mexican food. We figured considering it was on the fringe of Little Italy it would be Italians there. We thought
wrong.
When we arrived, people with Spain shirts started pouring in. Within minutes of the game starting, goals started pouring in as well. This was accompanied with an obese Spanish guy who would scream goal, while his voice cracked, every time Spain scored. I wanted to punch him in the throat.
Anyways, at half time we left and watched the rest of that awful game outside a bar in little Italy where we could all be depressed in unity.
And then we walked home while seeing a parade of non-spaniards in Spain jerseys celebrating their fake team. You know they were fake Spanish because they were East Indian or Asian.
