You're making it sound like footballers used to play from a wheelchair back then. Zidane didn't need to have Ronaldo's strength since his technique was out of this world. Btw players in Serie A of the 90es were in better shape than what you'll find in most Spanish clubs these days.

What Lion said above. Sounds like selective memory to me.

From what I can tell, the game has gotten a lot more physical, you're right about that. And it also makes just having skill much less useful than before. As a striker, if you can't handle other defenders, you're useless. Look at Messi. Great skill but he's also very quick and strong as hell. It's nearly impossible to push him off the ball. Plain speed and power won't make you a great player, they'll make you a useful one. Aka Walcott, Milner, etc. But you still need technique and believe it or not, it takes a lot of it to control a ball and pass when you're running full speed as opposed to jogging or walking.
Messi is an exception, there are few exceptions around. If by having less skill makes you a better footballer of today it actually makes you a worse footballer. Football was about one's skill with the ball, not the headless chicken showing the English used to be like up til before the money went their way.

And like @DelPiero84 said, you're making it sound like they were in wheelchairs back then. It was nothing like that. It just wasn't ping-pong FIFA-like Football and teams didn't pressure that high, which gave the players the time and space to do much more.

Baggio was right when he said it's unfortunate the world has adapted to the English way of playing. Italy still refuses to, even if not by choice. Fuck physicality, i want to see good Footballers, not horse racing.

Ronaldinho at his prime was amazing! There was no one like him before or after, he won by pure jogo bonito.
Yes, there was. Garrincha was his protégé, not in the literal sense of course.

How about his national team? Maradona and Pele both excelled with their national teams. Ronaldo has mostly been very disappointing and anonymous when playing for his country. He drifts out of games, and while he has been incredibly consistent over the past 2-3 seasons, he did fail to deliver in crucial games (whether it be against Atletico in the league or Dortmund in the CL semis a couple of seasons ago).
To be fair Ronaldo was great in the European Championship in 2012. Portugal was a penalty shootout from knocking out the defending champions in the semi-final. I know you non-Europeans don't hold that tournament in that high regard, but his performance in that tournament shouldn't be forgotten. But besides that, you're right, he hasn't been impressive on the national team.

To be a truly football great, its a requirement that you have carried your team in a world cup. Zidane, Maradona, and Pele all did this. Cruyff, Lothar, and Platini also did well for their country. Messi almost succeded on this.

Sadly Ronaldo is way behind in this parameter. Theres still time tho..
No, Messi didn't almost succeed. But because he got the Golden Ball clueless people who didn't actually watch the World Cup will claim that he carried Argentina. He wasn't even their best player.

No, it was not. He will be remembered for his time in Madrid, not Juventus.
Yup, sad but true.

 It was so unfair that Spain qualified.

Pogba salary could reach €6.5m
Paul Pogba could become the highest paid player in Serie A if he stays with Juventus for the next three years, it has been reported.

The France international recently signed a new contract with the Bianconeri which runs until 2019, with his salary seen as rising to €4.5m per year from €1.5m.

However, La Stampa - owned by the Agnelli family which also controls Juventus - reports that in addition to the aforementioned increase, Pogba’s salary will rise for every year he remains in Turin.

The newspaper states that should Pogba stay for the next three seasons and reach a certain number of appearances, the former Manchester United midfielder will see his wage rise to €6.5m.

As things stand, that figure would see the 21-year-old match Daniele De Rossi as the highest paid player in Serie A.
