then you dont know france, its history or its culture, from the gauls to merovingian, to carolingians whose birth so to speak started with the guy who stopped the muslim hordes from invading france(irony), there is a long history, over 23 centuries long, of a national 'french' identity, be it gaul or a mix of gaul and frank. there might be flavor, but if you have italian ancestry you will be known amongst your friends as le ritale or if you had portuguese youd be le porto, even to this day.
