World class when he went into the pirlo role. He's the future of the midfield, that much is obvious. Its time we saw less and less of the old man anyways. The role pogba currently plays doesn't get the best out of him, as it limits his great qualities. Play him at the base of the midfield 3 and we probably have a player among the worlds best midfielders.

Obviously he wa better in the pirlo position today lol.

No pressure at all, couldls calmly lay the play.
The BtB positions are always harder in these games.

Pogba did fine. Less visual, tactically improving. The latte is vital to start harder games

I've seen him play that role with more pressure on him and it makes little difference. His ball control and ball retention makes him ideal for such a position. Plus he's not going to be the defensive liability that pirlo is. All that needed improving was his passing and its clear he's worked a lot on that since joining the club.

yeh when he keeps it simple he is superb. Today he was always trying to do that extra. Sometimes it work sometimes it dont. A couple wrong shots and the bar prevented him from doing better

What are you talking about ?

Pirlo is not a defensive liability, Pogba in that position is. Pirlo might have lost a ball or two last season, as the years are catching up and he isnt quick enough on those turns anymore, but that hardly costed us two goals. On the other hand, Pirlo is in the top 3 distance run every single game he plays. Picking out opponent passing and running lines, pressuring the build up play in his area, he does quite significant work.

Pogba on the other hand, whilst beeing far ahead for his age, lacks the positional skills to be effective that deep. He doesnt see how he has to move when in possession to create passing lanes like pirlo. He doesnt position like pirlo/marchisio when not in possession to lock down passing routes.

Ball controll, is mostly valuable, when under high pressure of opponent. Its a massive asset for box to box midfielders, wich pogba certainly is made for. He has the long pass to start counterattacks when receiving the pass from deep, has the presence to go into duels all over the field, has a dangerous shot once close to the box, and the technical skill and ability to skip past a defender for a shot, or exchange passes with the strikers

When facing an opponent that parks the bus, THEN its good to play him the deepest of the 3 CM's. Simply because he has the best passing range compared to vidal/marchisio. Because he has a longer shooting range and better distribution in general. And because those other two are more lethal close to the box.

a bit immature at times with his decision making, resulted in all that awful long range shots.

he should be more utilized as 2nd targetman upfront the way bonucci is the 2nd regista

with pogba and llorente shielding the ball upfront can give us more tactical options in attacking, however that mean we must drop pirlo and play with 3 box2box CMs

Well, when he plays with marchisio and vidal, usually vidal makes runs and eighter pogba or marchisio does aswel.

Usually its however pogba that stays deep, cause of the passing range and distribution.

But tbh, we really need a replacement regista, cause pogba's talents clearly are BtB

Good thing you're not exaggerating.

Yesterday was the first game where I was disappointed with his performance.

Oh noooooo pogba hasn't been up to pair....

Marchisio. Pogba to be a sure starter in a year or two and take over for pirlo full time.

Marchisio just can't be replaced.

One of the worst posts I've seen here, I'm sorry. Pirlo offers no resistance against any decent counter attack. He offers no resistance on set pieces. He literally cannot do anything in the air. He has no range. Yes, he runs quite a bit but he has only one speed and that is slow so if he's far out of the play, forget it, he won't make up ground. I don't even have to mention tackling. Yes, sometimes he can get stuck in if he catches someone off balance or with a bad touch but he has no agility or acceleration. He can't close someone down and take the ball.

If you want to say he positions himself well when we have 99% possession, yes, perhaps, but that's literally the easiest thing to do.

Pogba is playing Pirlo's position for France. He's played there against Spain already. How can someone be a "defensive liability" when he can take the ball from Iniesta like he's a school boy?

Skip to 2:50. Look at that range. That is what you want from a pure ball winning defensive midfielder, let alone someone who can actually play football.

What are you talking about? Pirlo lost the ball three to five times against Bayern each game...
