Yes I am. And you're clinging to examples that suit your incredibly fragile point, I'm just making the argument that they both suck equally. I think that logic is on my side :)

Why does the promise of riches and a better life make it any more right? Most hit men get rewarded once their job is done.
That's an illogical statement because iris your opinion not FACT that they both suck equally

Joining the army was never wrong to begin with.

Do you think I'm against education? Let's fund some education and job programs then, so people aren't so desperately hopeless in life that the only thing they can do to help themselves is join the army. Deal?
It just works out better for some people, what can I say? Should no one join the army, according to you?

Dude, they have Cronios. I won't wish that on my worst enemy!
The only thing that could stop American meddling in the Middle East was if Cronios got hired in some PR role. He'd just sit next to the general 24/7 repeating the same sentences until the man would break down crying and just make him the boss

If they find out they're going to Iraq they can quit the military, can't they? Isn't that better than killing people when that's against your principles?
Not that simple. Once you enlist, you have to see out your term unless superiors authorize you to leave your duties.

I think.

90.000 over the first 5 years, civilians . They both suck, equally.

Or you can refuse to go and spend jail time and face hefty economic reprisals. Any person with self respect would obviously pick the second one.

I want to unpack this idea of yours that "serving your country is noble".

First you say that it's not so bad because most people don't actually end up in combat so they just stay in the army for a while, get the benefits, and get out. Ie. they are getting a state funded job and an education while polishing state funded weapons and getting trained to use them. So how is this any different from other social spending and what makes this a "service" to your country exactly?

In the second case they are actually in combat trying to kill people. In Iraq, which is not remotely attempting to invade America. So again, what's noble about it?

Reply to my point, please.

When the time comes and I have to prove my moral standpoints I'll do my very best. My life is not worth more than any other innocent civilian, especially when the price for not heading overseas to kill is spending time in jail and paying back money.

Someone has to serve and protect. What do you suggest, no armies? We don't live in a utopia.
What do they protect? Their land, their homes? From who? Nothing but being the aggressors and invaders post world war 2. The patriotic mantra is one thing, but surely defending your country or freedom rhetoric becomes hallow when has no bearing whatsoever in reality. Reminds me of how the Romans justified their aggression.

No not at all and people who abuse their power are evil no matter what or where they are
So, why the US aren't invading Israel if they care about the good of people in the world, vetoing every decision taking against them in the UN, they have massive destruction arms, they are killing civilians, even americans yet they are under the wing of the us. You don't find thiis hypocrite at all ?
