Forgotten Man Zalayeta Set For Napoli
With scarcely 30 appearances in the last two years, and at least four strikers ahead of him in the pecking order, Marcelo Zalayeta seems set to sever his ten year connection with the Old Lady and move south...
Marcelo Zalayeta's agent claims that the Uruguayan forward is on the brink of a move to Napoli.
With his chances of a first team berth at Juventus dwindling, the representative clearly feels that it is in the player's best interests to try his luck in Naples with the newly-promoted side, who finished 2nd to Juve in Serie B last season.
The agent's remarks were unequivocal. He said, "Tomorrow, Zalayeta should become an Azzurri player. There is a very good chance you will see him in a Napoli shirt."
The Uruguayan arrived at the Stadio delle Alpi in 1997 after leaving Uruguayan legends Penarol. Despite being under contract with Juve for ten years, he's actually spent almost four years on loan at clubs including Empoli, Sevilla and, briefly, Perugia.
But he's been in the black and white since 2004, although he's found himself on the margins in the last two seasons, playing fewer than half his side's games.
Napoli are set to get rid of a fringe player of their own, as Cristian Bucchi seems set to move on to Siena.
