Forgotten Man Zalayeta Set For Napoli

With scarcely 30 appearances in the last two years, and at least four strikers ahead of him in the pecking order, Marcelo Zalayeta seems set to sever his ten year connection with the Old Lady and move south...

Marcelo Zalayeta's agent claims that the Uruguayan forward is on the brink of a move to Napoli.

With his chances of a first team berth at Juventus dwindling, the representative clearly feels that it is in the player's best interests to try his luck in Naples with the newly-promoted side, who finished 2nd to Juve in Serie B last season.

The agent's remarks were unequivocal. He said, "Tomorrow, Zalayeta should become an Azzurri player. There is a very good chance you will see him in a Napoli shirt."

The Uruguayan arrived at the Stadio delle Alpi in 1997 after leaving Uruguayan legends Penarol. Despite being under contract with Juve for ten years, he's actually spent almost four years on loan at clubs including Empoli, Sevilla and, briefly, Perugia.

But he's been in the black and white since 2004, although he's found himself on the margins in the last two seasons, playing fewer than half his side's games.

Napoli are set to get rid of a fringe player of their own, as Cristian Bucchi seems set to move on to Siena.

I liked having Zala in the squad for a bit of extra depth/quality up top but he deserves to play regularly so I wish him all the best.

And it's about time we got rid of Blasi.

Napoli’s double Juve swoop
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Napoli have reportedly completed the co-ownership signings of Juventus duo Manuele Blasi and Marcelo Zalayeta.

The Partenopei have been seeking reinforcements over the last fortnight to add to the four new recruits who have already arrived this summer as they prepare for their return to Serie A.

According to a journalist from Il Roma, Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco has admitted that the Old Lady have agreed to sell a 50 per cent share in the two fringe players to the Stadio San Paolo outfit.

Whispers suggest that Blasi will pocket a £750,000 signing-on fee, while Uruguayan hitman Zalayeta is set to receive the slightly smaller sum of £675,000.

An official announcement is set to be made by the two clubs at a Press conference later this evening and via the teams’ websites.

Both players are reportedly already on their way to join their new teammates at Napoli’s training facility in Capodichino.

Bloody hell, we can't even sell them.

Must mean that we will get very little cash to reinvest in the team.

I wonder how much they payed for half of these two, it also leaves the chance for us to get them back, but do we want to?
I would have also preferred to see them sold for 100% but maybe Napoli couldn't offer more then this, and who knows, maybe we got enough to buy a decent CB now.

Co-ownership?! That's the best way to give more chance to such a great prospect like Blast! During the next season in Napoli Blasi will mature and develop even more. When at the end of the season he return to us he'll be a real star player. It's true that we'll have to pay 15 mil or more for his 50% but he will worth such an amount.:wallbang:

Grazie Marcelo.

And Blasi: buy your other half, and get out of here !!
