mellberg would be a good signing now to help shore our defense till the end of the season but hopefully we splash the cash for a GREAT partner for chiellini in the summer. melberg would be a great back-up for the dquad and we could lose some dead-wood (boumsong) though i have been pleased with the improvement in legrotaglie he is not a viable long-term option.

i would also love to take ujfalusi in a minute

Secco And Blanc In England For Sissoko And Mellberg

According to Italian daily 'Corriere dello Sport', Juventus director of sports Alessio Secco and general manager Blanc are in England to sign two important players: Sissoko and Mellberg.

Apart from trying to sell Tiago to Tottenham, Juventus have other important objectives in their expedition to England. Coach Claudio Ranieri has demanded immediate reinforcements in order to continue the race towards a Champions League spot, so new signings are a must.

With the Scudetto dreams now all but faded away, the Bianconeri's main target becomes that of qualifying to the Champions League via a top-four spot. However, Ranieri believes that some new blood is needed to secure this objective.

Therefore Sissoko and Mellberg have become top priorities, with the latter being available for just 1m Euros, since he will be a free agent in June.

Juventus are also following Italian players, and two possible targets could be Parma's Cigarini and Empoli's Raggi, with the possibility of signing either one of them during this transfer window.

Why these two (Secco & Blanc) didn't bought Ivanović and Barzaglie...
Mellberg is an average player who could be nothing more than substitution in a champions team.

The worst thing is that everyone who ever watched football and Juve knew that we are lacking another good defender. Everyone except our board and now we are paying the price for that.

The whole purpose of bringing in Mellberg this soon is because of our dire need for a defender right away, but how do we know that he'll do any good? How can we know he'll adapt to Serie A as soon as he steps on Italian soil? We don't, so this is stupid. 1 million euro's could be going to waste when we can sign a Serie A player.

Mellberg is playing right now vs Liverpool away, if someone wanted to study him more closely. I didn't catch all of first half so I can't say how his game was so far.

Juve close on Mellberg

Juventus have confirmed they are close to reaching an agreement with Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg.

With the Sweden international out of contract this summer, the Old Lady are free to discuss a deal with the former Racing Santander defender with a view to him joining in July.

It had been thought Juve may be considering making an offer to Villa in order to land him now.

However, it now appears as though he will move on a free transfer at the end of the season.

"Mellberg is close to signing a preliminary agreement with Juventus," said the club's sporting director Alessio Secco.

"If everything goes well, the player will become a Juve player in July. There are still minor things left to discuss before he signs the preliminary agreement."

Sissoko interest

Meanwhile, Juve remain interested in Liverpool's out-of-favour midfielder Mohammed Sissoko and have not ruled out reaching a deal this month for his services.

"He is a player that we are interested in," added Secco. "And we haven't ruled out the possibility of him joining us in the winter transfer window. We will see."
