It´s official!

Juventus snap up Grygera Wednesday 10 January, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ajax defender Zdenek Grygera will wear the Juventus jersey next season, the Dutch club’s technical director has confirmed.

The Czech international’s contract with the outfit expires in June and he was paired with a move to Italy, with Inter apparently making a late bid to snatch him from Juve’s grasp.

But it seems that the Old Lady of Italian football have won the race to net the full-back on a free transfer.

“Juventus have behaved correctly with us and informed us officially that they have signed the player for the next season,” said Martin Van Geel to the newspaper De Telegraaf.

“We have not discussed the option of him moving in January, but if the Bianconeri were interested in this opportunity then we would be willing to discuss the possibility of finding a financial agreement.”

The 26-year-old, who is considered a key player by national boss Karel Bruckner, had insisted that Juve were his first option given the presence of fellow countryman Pavel Nedved.

“He’s a great player and if he decided to come here then I would be happy as he’s a very good defender,” Nedved said yesterday.

“He can play on the left, on the right and in the middle which is a real advantage in modern football.”

didnt really know he can cover all roles in defence, a really good signing :D :D one player in for a strong defence, next year, if we manage to sign a really good central defender we could be playing zebina - grygera - samuel/heinze/barzagli - chiellini, not bad at all ,and if we sign to central defenders we can play grygera - samuel/heinze/barzagli - chiellini, amazing :D :D

Good news on Grygera. A fine player.

Free from 1/7/7 or a small financial arrangment to come in the January window.

I say let's get him now and add Faty (immediately, too) to shore up our injury-hit defence.

Heinze must now be considered 50/50. The funds offered to complete the Heinze signing can be used by Manchester United towards Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich or securing Rio Mavuba.

Nice move from Secco. Perhaps Grygera join us now that would be very smart. Now for the Central go for Heinze or even better Metzelder and for Summer and then i see a light on the end of the Tunnel

Actually, I think Nedved made more efforts in this deal than Secco...

Secco has not achieved anything but failure since he was appointed...

Nedved had a big influence but dont forget Moggi had been wanting Grygera for a long time.
But Secco did it so he deserves some praise. Also maybe this will get his morale up and he will buy more players

i know you don't like the new board but this is too much, cut the guy some slack. nedved wasn't the one that was travelling back and forth from amsterdam and meeting various club representatives, was he?

nedved was a bonus card for convincing the player himself, nothing else.

Very true vlatko, and like Michael said, he was linked with our team for a long time now, good to see we finally got him.
Nedved might have phoned him and influenced his pick, but Secco is the one who made the transfer happen.

And Ajax said clerarly that they appreciate that Juve told them that Grygera signed for us. This is good for future transfer-deals. So they know that we are smart (Huntelaar)
