Simone Perrotta and Gianluigi Buffon are suffering from slight injury worries as the Italy squad came back together to prepare for the Scotland game.

The Roma midfielder had picked up a right thigh problem before the weekend break and began light training following a two-day rest period.

More tests are being performed to ascertain whether it would be a risk to field him from the start in Wednesday’s Euro 2008 qualifier.

Goalkeeper Buffon did not take part in training this evening, as he is suffering from gastroenteritis, but the stomach bug is expected to pass quickly.

The pressure is growing on the Azzurri to beat Scotland at Bari’s Stadio San Nicola or face failure to qualify for the tournament.

After this weekend’s results, both France and the Scots are five points clear of Italy, while Ukraine leapfrogged into third place.

Roberto Donadoni tested out defensive and attacking strategies in today’s session and concluded with a game between ranks.

The blue team consisted of Massimo Oddo, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Gennaro Gattuso, Daniele De Rossi, Fabio Quagliarella, Luca Toni and Antonio Di Natale.

The green side had Andrea Barzagli, Marco Materazzi, Max Tonetto, Massimo Ambrosini, Andrea Pirlo, Mauro Camoranesi, Stefano Mauri, Tommaso Rocchi, Alessandro Del Piero and Alberto Gilardino.

we seriously need to drop iaquinta, i never liked him but i really just noticed his terrible performances when watching the italy vs ukraine euro qualifier. He is absolutely terrible he trots around pointlessly and then when he gets a good oppurtinity he wastes it! this guy is serious shit! he gets oppurtunities for excellent runs but he always wastes them! i hope he doesnt play in anymore of our games

dont worry scotland will screw it up eventually, even if we won this game we would bugger it up somewhere else, glorious failiures is our mantra. though if italy dont win then i think the ukraine will sneak through

I really think that we need to get Cassano in the squad. He has been good for the Azzurri and, like it or not, is a big part of the future. I don't think that too many starters from the WC 06 squad will be on the WC 10 squad. We need to think about that.

The Azzurri will host the Scots at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari on Wednesday and rumours have suggested that the tactician might be sacked if his team fails to win.
“If we do not achieve the results we need, then it will be right for everyone to criticise and draw the needed conclusions,” said Donadoni.
“If, if, if… you must let the Nazionale play. I don’t understand why there are so many trials underway before things have even happened,” added the former Livorno boss.
“I want to be clear, I am not angry. Many things don’t affect me at all, but I don’t want people to think that I am not determined just because I have good manners.
“I think that someone feels nostalgia for the past. I have heard so many lies that you could write an encyclopaedia with them. We need to respect each other, I am not willing to continue playing this game,” concluded Donadoni.
FIGC Commissioner Luca Pancalli publicly stated last week that he had “total confidence” in Donadoni to head off rumours that the former Milan winger’s job was in peril.
Lega Calcio chief Antonio Matarrese has also confirmed his trust in the Coach, but reports suggest he might be replaced by Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

Idiot, if he does not win he should maybe think of leaving himself. He's failing to succeed with a WC-champions team which has not been changed apart from Totti, that's an achievement not many coaches make .

True my friend, Totti is the only absentee from the WC winning team, and to remind everybody Totti wasnt that effective of Italy's run to win the WC :eyebrows:

I agree to the words in bold, Totti wasn't that effective in the WC. Thanks to Buffon, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Gattuso and Pirlo whom I think were at their top form during the entire tourament.
