It's a bit of a market inefficiency and a product of the FM generation. 30 year old plus veterans have a ton of value and in many ways are better and more stable than younger guys with resale value.

Bayern is looking to win domestic and continental trophies, not worrying about resale value. Veterans help you win. Look at Madrid with Modric, Kroos, Alaba, Nacho, Carvajal.
What kind of value? I guess you mean on the the balance sheet with their huge salaries? Because no one is going to pay big bucks for an ageing player. Besides Bayern of course.
The players you mentioned were either bought when much younger, free agent or coming back from a loan. Real invest in young players only.

Obviously that's correct, however, the positive examples you guys mention were all market opportunities for peanuts or a free transfer.
I'm talking about heavy transfer fees. We were lucky with Nedved but that luck run out with Higuain.

This is spot on. The bold part is where I want us to be.

That's not entirely true.

Madrid win because they have stockpiled some of the best young talent in the world over the years. And all of this has happened because they bought players with resale value and shipped them off before their value dipped.

Their experienced core have all mostly been replaced by young 20-23 year olds who are amongst the best in their position and literally all have them have stepped up over the past couple of years.

This is not a team relying on 30 year old players to win trophies. Most of their key players are under the age of 24.

Having a core group of experienced players is important. Conversely, buying promising young players (with resale value) is just as important to help you win trophies and maintain that winning consistency.

I was joking, but besides Nedved we didn't spend much on the other ones so the resale value question is not relevant.
my bad then, i still don't think resale value was (or should have been) a question with either higuain or ronaldo

they scored goals, that's why we bought them

Now he could compete with 2 players there : Onana and Kamara. They also still have McGinn, Barkley, J. Ramsey.
They are different players though. Barkley was used as a DLP by Luton so wouldn't really affect Barrenechea in a double pivot (usually he's a #8 or #10). McGinn gets used all over midfield and isn't really a DM by trade so will get minutes. Ramsey might not even be at Villa next season but he's definitely not a DM and won't be near that position.

Think it's easy to forget that Villa need a real squad with CL so players will find space. Also, Barrenechea isn't our player any more so I'm not really too concerned, as harsh as that might sound.
