I'm not surprised to be honest, it's nothing new for madrid selling their established players, then to overpay for other players. The list is long: sneijder, robben, higuain, Özil and more.
Tbh, Sneijder and Robben were sold because they bought better players at that time. Although it still was completely insane, but there was a reason. Ozil on the other hand has carried the team for the last two years and was arguably the most influential player of that squad. In my opinion he is one of the best, if not the best 'number 10' at this moment. His sale doesn't make any sense but it reminds me again why i always hated this 'Football Club'.

Still can't believe Madrid sold Ozil, much more than I can't believe that we actually got him. He's a top player and I hope we continue with getting a big player every summer. Still, our squad is still lacking in depth and quality, but I think this is the boost we need to at least get a top four spot this year.
Yeah, this signing totally turned things around for Arsenal.

To be honest, Robben and Sneider were never really that consistent for Real, they made it big after they left Real, which made people think it was an insane decision to sell them in hindsight. Higuain hasn't been a regular starter for Real the past couple of seasons, so that one isn't much of a shock either. Ozil on the other hand has always been one of their star players, he's their most creative player and has been consistently performing at the top level in all 3 seasons at Real Madrid.

3 days before the mercato shut down, when the news started coming out that Arsenal were bidding for Ozil, I had told a friend of mine that I'd rather take Ozil than Benzema and Di Maria together, but I told him there was no way Real was selling, I even bet on it:sergio:, needless to say it was one of those rare moments where you're happy to lose a bet.

Cesc wouldn't play there. He would play in Ozil's position.
I think he can play there quite well, he used to play deeper when he first started with us, though admittedly he has been playing in an advanced position for the past 3-4 years. I still think he can play deeper if need be though.

Van Persie

Cazorla - Özil - Walcott

Cesc - Diaby

Wenger :disagree:
Put Song instead of Diaby, and we're set.

In his time at Madrid, Ozil produced 27 assists just to Ronaldo alone.

I don't understand why they'd decide on Ronaldo and Bale as wingers and then get rid of their #10 that would be doing all the assisting in that formation.

A lack of logic in Real Madrid's moves on the transfer market?

Not to mention that Ozil is one of the best there is today in giving a final pass on the counter, probably his strongest asset. When you have two of the fastest wingers in the game, both with great finishing selling Ozil makes absolutely no sense.

I would have lost it if I was a Real fan, fortunately for me my brother is. Fun times in our family at the moment.

According to Graham Hunter Ozil waited until the last minute to sign his contract because he wanted United to move for him, his father was calling United begging them to make a move.

Grade C - for our transfer activity.

Poli is a good, young midfielder who will improve, and a big improvement over Muntari, Nocerino, Traore and Flamini. Been a fan of his since 2010.

Saponara did well in Serie B, and is supposedly talented youngster, said to have a similiar playing style to Kaka.
Not sure how much game time he'll get this season though.

As for Kaka himself, he'll have lost some pace no doubt, but he is still a huge upgrade over Boateng as a playmaker.
Being a free transfer, makes the risk worth taken.

I think Matri will flourish with those through balls from Kaka, like Inzaghi used to.
Maybe a little over priced, but i have always liked him since his days at Cagliari, so it's nice to see him in a Milan jersey.
Think he'll do well for us.

Felt now was the right time to get a new goalkeeper.
Would have loved to have got someone like Krul or Marchetti.
Abbiati is a good shot stopper, but always feel there is an accident waiting to happen in him.

Cannot beleive we didn't get a new defender.
Was hoping we wouldn't sign Zapata permanently, after his loan spell, think he is average at best most of the time.
Silvestre on loan form Inter.....meh.

Matri can miss quite a few chances, but he's a good player without a doubt. I still don't understand why a goalkeeper hasn't been purchased in these last 2-3 years for you guys. Would probably do wonders.

I still can't believe that Ozil will play for Arsenal this season.
Yeah I know, it's insane. Suddenly they're serious contenders for the title. Not just because of Özil though.

They couldn't get rid of Bendtner as they didn't sign a new striker though :D
