That's a bit unfair. A lot of American presidents were good men with the good of the people in their hearts. And a lot of Americans are very highly informed, intelligent, and educated. Unfortunately, the American electoral system gives it's populace the choice between two equally shitty candidates who are both corrupt and inept. It's here that American blind ignorance comes in. They refuse to reform their electoral system because, "It's worked this long, and we're the best country in the world."
Recently I heard a theory that the rampant corruption in the US government and corporate structure is actually what makes America great. Apparently, the drive to out-lie, out-cheat, and out-steal; keeps America ahead of foolishly noble countries and corporations. Or at least being the most corrupt garuntees them the most unfair benefits. Add to that the collusion between top corporations and the government, and you get a very powerful and effective exploitation mechanism.
