I think that the concept of a forum
is to leave a trace of everything that went on. Keeping historical posts is a sentimental matter to many people. As such, it's not like talking on the phone or instant messaging. Maybe we should have mentioned to begin with, I didn't really think it was necessary.
But if you have read old threads were the members were deleted, it looks pretty pale. The username is not clickable because there is no profile. So you can't search for posts for instance. Maybe I'm sentimental but I don't like that, a forum is supposed to be whole I think. Does that make sense to you?
I've also had requests to "delete all my posts" which seemed completely pointless because it makes threads unreadable.
I hear your reasons and I'm sure others have their own but it's the specific of a forum that says it should be an archive as well.
Btw, nice to see you again
