In statistics, a correlation of 1 means two variables are perfectly correlated. As they increase towards 1, there is an increasing linear relationship. So yes, that is indeed a positive correlation by definition.

So I guess increasing sales as the result of increased advertisement would be a positive correlation.

You have to look at it on a case by case basis. It's all about interpretation and presentation of information.

I mean, if you're going to speak on cable television about the candidate you support, at least know a little something about him. But in all honesty, that guy seemed like an idiot anyway.
