Pff fuck off, you speak on the behalf of the Iraqi people and every single entity the United States deals with all the time. What a hypocritical statement.
On the contrary, I speak on behalf of anyone that voices something. I don't simply shun them because "they're saying something against us...that ain't right, they must hate freedom!"
Your notions regarding this issue are easy to prognosticate as well. I'm sure you'd love to see Chavez stay in power despite him neglecting his own people.
Unlike you, I didn't claim to. I simply questioned how you had any idea. And the fact that your overseeing he was treated like a hero when he was released and then elected. I bet you didn't even know who Hugo Chavez was a few years ago if not months, correct me if I'm wrong.

You probably don't even talk with Venezuelans on a regular basis.. you're just too consumed by the Anti-Bush orgasm you obtain when hearing him speak.
Why the hell shouldn't I be anti-bush? If the majority of the "retarted" Venezuelans chose Chavez as their leader, what does that say about the educated majority of the United States that elected Bush...twice?

Hell, even I abhor Bush, however you see through the clouds and notice the both players are fucking disgraces who should be removed from office.
[/QUOTE]

It is this mentality that creates the animosity people have towards the United States. When will you realize that you can't just sit there and 'pick and chose" the leaders of foreign countries. It is this "all up in my grill" feeling people get fed up with, why can't you realize this??

How the hell do you speak for the people of Venezuela?? You have the opinion of a rich Venezuelan, that's all you have! That's like basing a demography based on what the pompous upstate New Yorker thinks. You ticked me off when you belittled the people of the barrios, but this takes the cake.

Im not even gonna bother replying to this. Get your facts straight before you talk, ignorant.

First of all, read my post, I made no claims as to whether what people think of Chavez, I just questioned how the fuck Andy knows anything, because when you ask for the assasination of someone, you must know something.

And ignorant is a pretty broad statement, I wonder how I'm ignorant.

While I was watching Chavez speak, I couldnt help but think what would have happened had Bush, or any other western leader spoke of him like that while they were in Venezuela...or if the UN had a conference in Iran (yeah right:D ), and Irans leader was getting dissed in his own homeland...

the thought crossed my mind that neither one may get out of America alive after their speeches, but then I forgot...WE ARE CIVILIZED !!!
well thats a big statement. If the UN was somewhere else and i mean then its an open forum.

Swag: Even though I absolutely detest Pat Robertson who I feel is a disgrace to Christianity, I would call for the assassination of Chavez just to spare the good Venezuelan people from his madness. He's turning Caracas into a fucking cesspool and it needs to be stopped.
I cannot go there. What goes around, comes around. As a point of comparison, as much as I detest our current government leadership, I am not going to support someone in Venezuela hired to assassinate GW Bush for the sake of "regime change". That's just murder.

It's quite disgusting that millions of teen girls strive to be like her... our society is building a generation of whores as we speak.
That South Park episode mocking this issue was so brutal on her... it was uncomfortable and funny at the same time.

Ze, unlike the USA, where people protest against the president all the time...the people of Venezuela don't have that option...nor do they in Cuba either

I'm sure they're well aware what happens if they speak up
Ahhhh, you do understand what's going on in this country now, right, Vinman? Unless, for example, you think Valerie Plame was a complete accident or isolated incident... :rolleyes2

These days, I'd refrain from throwing stones at other nations in this glass house of civil rights and freedoms we currently live in.

Being that we touch on the subject, what do you think of the stance taken by the likes of Iran, thailand and brazil of accepting transgendered individuals in an effort to enforce heteronormativity ?

My humble opinion: People are people and everybody deserves the same basic human rights. It's easy to target trannys as a group and see them as inhuman, but they are people who never chose to be freaks. They had to endure decades of demons in their heads before arriving at the transgender conclusion, and still they don't know happiness. Demons like that are difficult to slay, and I am only guessing here because I really can't imagine the difficulties they have endured in their own heads.

I dig Vermeer. My father, who is a retired artist, was always a sucker for a good literal, realist painting. But then he loves Seurat too.

Me? I appreciate it too. But I've been known to indulge in a little Jasper Johns too.

Hey, any artist who makes an appearance on The Simpsons can't be all bad. ;)

Vermeer is good. Too bad I had a job as a tourguide for over a year once and saw a bit too much of his work. Same goes for Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Never in my life will I be able to appreciate the Night Watch for what it is again

Good point.

That last word reminded me of something a professor of mine used to say (through which he intended to explain several fundamental cultural differences between the US and Western Europe): they are civilized, we are civilised.

Pffffffffffffffff...come on Pado...cry me a river (not you but them). Hard to have sympathy for someone who cuts themselves or overdoses or goes through a depression because they want "a nice set of tits to go with the salsiccia" meanwhile people have to go through life being born without limbs or raised in an abusive household or shunned because of their skin color...sorry no tears shed on this cold bastard

It is hard to have public sympathy, which is why some baseline of civility should be established. People have their demons, and it's kind of hard for me to choose whose demons are more 'legitimate' than others: e.g., someone who cuts themselves for a 'nad change or someone who cuts themselves out of a borderline personality disorder or someone who cuts themselves out of failed suicide attempts to slash their wrists. They're all pretty f*ed up in my book, none deserving any more or less ridicule than the other.

What I think is particularly lame are the wankers who think something like foie gras is cruel and inhuman treatment of ducks and yet somehow the standard farming practices of chickens are not -- and that an issue such as this gets legal passages in states when there are children being tortured and mutilated and abused around the world. That to me is a problem of perspective.

@ Nick, I don't expect you to understand mental illness, as I, myself, do not understand it, and most of the world does not understand it. It just troubles me that in 2006 our attitude toward all forms of mental illness is still "Get Over It!" and "Start acting normal".

Improvements come at a snails pace. Slower really.
