While I was watching Chavez speak, I couldnt help but think what would have happened had Bush, or any other western leader spoke of him like that while they were in Venezuela...or if the UN had a conference in Iran (yeah right ), and Irans leader was getting dissed in his own homeland...

the thought crossed my mind that neither one may get out of America alive after their speeches, but then I forgot...WE ARE CIVILIZED !!!

My humble opinion: People are people and everybody deserves the same basic human rights. It's easy to target trannys as a group and see them as inhuman, but they are people who never chose to be freaks. They had to endure decades of demons in their heads before arriving at the transgender conclusion, and still they don't know happiness. Demons like that are difficult to slay, and I am only guessing here because I really can't imagine the difficulties they have endured in their own heads.

It is hard to have public sympathy, which is why some baseline of civility should be established. People have their demons, and it's kind of hard for me to choose whose demons are more 'legitimate' than others: e.g., someone who cuts themselves for a 'nad change or someone who cuts themselves out of a borderline personality disorder or someone who cuts themselves out of failed suicide attempts to slash their wrists. They're all pretty f*ed up in my book, none deserving any more or less ridicule than the other.

What I think is particularly lame are the wankers who think something like foie gras is cruel and inhuman treatment of ducks and yet somehow the standard farming practices of chickens are not -- and that an issue such as this gets legal passages in states when there are children being tortured and mutilated and abused around the world. That to me is a problem of perspective.
