THe point is quite clear.. I made it long ago...
North America gets its 'soccer news' from the English press for the most part and more importantly, the less than expert soccer writer in North America is highly influenced by the English press. As a result, the 'catenaccio' CRAP has been an argument I have had to defend back home forever. People with limited football knowledge will conclude that Italian soccer is boring because "its too defensive" and state that a 0-0 scoreline is typical Italian.
The other point is that as of the last 7 years other nations have also taken to this idea that Italian football is the Anti-football: Johan Cruyff BEFORE the Milan-Juventus final stated "Italian teams should not be allowed to both be in a final for the sake of the game"...
Italy's loss to S. Korea was attributed to its 'catenaccio' style that it refues to modify and so on...
At this point italian football and catenaccio is so deeply intertwined that they fail to realize that others do the same ....
