Here is a fact: Milan passed on Del Piero..actually didn't really pass...wrong words...they were interested but did not commit....oh yeah, same with Totti.

On the other hand, I once heard a Crespo interview where he said when he was 14 and in his homeland a Juve scout came to watch him he wasn't a Serie A type player !! Ok then...no offense dudes! See it happens to the best of us.

Bad Mistake, but I dont see the problem since juve faired pretty well without him.

Didn't AC Milan let go of a certain "Fabrizio Miccoli" who was in their youth team because they claimed he was too short to hack it in serie A?

I expect this kind of bad player evalutation from any club....Crespo must be a single fish in the sea of players who were deemed "not good enough" by juve. So it's only natural that one or two of those players would make it.

it's sometimes hard to judge a player that young, especially since many players mature dramatically before they hit their prime

Apparantly, Graham Strachan or one of his fellow mediocre English managers passed on Zinedine Zidane a year or two before he joined Juve. He didnt think he had enough potential

i read that micoli felt homesick and therefore was released from the team. but you cant compare passing on miccoli to passing on ale or totti. yeah, milan suck

Sergio...If you have relatives in rome you know the chaotic situation with appts! I wish it were as simply as NY...yeah NY is simple compared to this. I live close to San Giovanni.

I really don't feel bad on passing Miccoli. still has not proven he could play on a big team. The situation with DP and Totti was not the same..we never had them. Oh yeah we did have Maccarone though.

The problem is that they remind me of the brownstones of NY, in that they all look the same. If you blink twice, you can get lost.

It happened to me. Twice. I miss it, though. I'd love to go back someday.

Isn't it amazing the amount of young players that pass through the respective systems, only to get cast aside and find stardom somewhere else.

As a die-hard AC Milan fan I should be the last one bring this up but I feel I have to. I think there is a disturbingly clear pattern so far this year (as has been the case in the past): officials are being too lenient with Juve. Yes, I acknowledge that other teams have been in the same seat: sometimes its momentum (See Roma on the Road to the Scudetto in 2001). I also realize that my team has also had its share of favorable calls. The Lazio off-side incident was blantantly incorrect. Perhaps it was the pressure of seeing big time defenders raising their hand to signal the offside and the official second guessing himself. Yes last year we had most PK in our favor. We also had the most offensive minded team in Serie A and Europe : it comes with the territory.
However, one can't deny that Juve and bad officiaiting has been linked for a long time. Example, Fiorentina and that infamous season of the late 70’s; 95 Scudetto and the Parma-Juve win with a controversial last minute goal; 98 and Inter being disallowed a handful of goals (the famous didn’t cross the line goal) and the Parma-Juve game with Cannavaro’s disallowed goal. This season it is hitting alarming heights:
-The Zambrotta incident. I like Zambro and its not PERSONAL as he showed his class later on BUT how can anyone call that a PK standing right infront of him.
-The Shevchenko off-side goal which was from a Tacchinardi last touch. The linesman agreed with Rui Costa but the official would hear not listen.
-The Trezeguet elbow without a whistle.
And yesterday was quite blatant. Nedved falls and a foul is called. The official points to the ground where Nedved fell to signal where the kick should be taken from. He is helping Nedved and talking to an angry Modena player. The ball is not on the spot wher e he signalled . Tacchinardi kicks the ball at least 10 – 15 metres away from where the ref pointed. The Modena players don’t react and only two Juve players react. The ref did not react. We know the rest. Trez. Scores. Watch the play..its as if the other team was not there…they only reached Trez. once he kicked the ball behind the net. The Modena players run to the ref. The ref never whistled but more importantly he clearly had marked the spot from where the kick was to be taken. This was an inexcusable error from a Serie A official.
Another incident: Camoranesi and another player in a scuffle for the ball. Camoranesi knocks him in the head. Replay showed an elbow in the head. Not face: head. Player falls. The official (I can’t make this sh*t up!) leans down to the player who is crouched taps the players head with a yellow card twice!
Look the sad thing about these incidents is that Juve played a good match. They would probably would have won anyhow but to see these incidents is disturbing. It takes away from the game they actually played. Every game has officiating errors…but not this blatant and favoring one team…this year has been special and every t.v. show (even the state run RAI which is usually anti-Berlusconi because the managers are before his time) and talk radio show is beginning to notice.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist and unlike Sensi don’t imagine Moggi, Bettega et al. Visiting Collina with every Sunday morning with the weekly instructions and bags of cash. YET, for some reason officials act as if they are under an undue pressure with Juve. Maybe because of all your Scudettis and the theory “the king can do no wrong”? Whatever, it exists…and whereas it was sporadic throughout the past 10 years…its not the case anymore.
Like I said as a Milan fan we are often accused of many things: Galliani being President of FIGC … Berlusconi being PM. As a fan I am opposed to both these positions they occupy. However, I think it actually harms us. We are scrutinized more than others for this reason. Galliani is afraid to speak out these days and walks a fine line. In addition, if they have used their influence in these positions … HOW? You won the scudetto. You are getting the calls. If we used our power in a corrupt fashion it would have been evident.
Whatever..this is just my opinion. Whats yours?

I've also been noticing some more Juve backlash on the RAI International shows such "Grand Giostra dei Gol" 90 Minuto, and Domenica Sportiva, where in the beginning of the season the journalists were very pro-juve, not in a blind loyalty way, but they were referring more to the quality of the squad, whereas now, Juve is being made an example of in regards to the inconsistent officiating.

What worries me, is if it gets to the point where something will have to be done, I'm afraid that once this gets rectified, that there will be more calls against Juve that can easily be considered unjust. Make-up calls, if you will. It's obvious that they do get some preferrential treatment, but is it without warrant? Juve gets the treatment because of what they accomplished, not the other way around, where Juve have accomplished what they have by getting the preferrential treatment.

RE: the Modena match, the manager for Modena said it best, when he said that our players should have been paying attention, and not arguing over a foul. The president himself said that Modena resembled a bunch of "headless chickens".

All the big teams in Serie A get some leniency, and to counteract your point, Juve does lead the league in Penalty Kicks against, with 4, so it does work both ways. However, what does alarm me is the amount of calls that are going in their favor when they are away from the Delle Alpi. One can expect a home-field advantage when it comes to officiating, that's true in all sports, and it's even somewhat expected and accepted that it's part of the game.

You're right about Milan. They will never catch a break as long as Berlusconi is the PM, because that will reek of corruption. But since we're talking about an Italian government official, that wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if something did happen.

Juve is the New York Yankees of Italian football, the first team that pops into the minds of a football fan more often than not when someone mentions Serie A, and with it,come certain privleges, but of all the years that a team wouldn't require some outside assistance,this would be it, because this is the best Juve team in years, in my opinion.

Incubo, I do not think Sacchi ever called up Bergomi, I might be wrong but I do not believ he ever did, certainly did not play a world cup qualifier under Sacchi
Anyways like you said you feel Ferrara is substandard, the rest of us beg to differ and I think Costacurta is alright but has been fortunate by playing with Milan and Baresi in particular but you beg to differ

Okay I cannot keep a straight face when I hear a Milan or Juve supporter complain about favouritism as lets face it if the rules had been the same for everyone then no way would they have won the amount of titles they have won so pardon me if my heart does not bleed for a Milan supporter accusing refs of being biased towards juve and vice versa

Having said that what happened against Modena was a disgrace as the referee had his back to Tacchinardi who was 7 yrads away from where the incident took place, the ref was actually talking to Dp, Nedved and soem modena players when the ball was passed so imo he should never have allowed it

As for lettin players go, I hear our scouts first saw Ronaldo and Maradona but out board did not think they would be good enough for Juventus
