I don't understand why Inter are even called "Inter Milan" on TV here. In Sweden we always called them "Inter" and AC Milan "Milan".

Then there's the "FC Porto" :D
they do that an annoying amount of time in scotland too...but then again, only foreigners call celtic and rangers "glasgow" celtic or "glasgow" rangers

Ajax Amsterdam, Real Betis Sevilla, FC Barcelona and of course the ever-famous Bayern Munich (Bavaria Munich or Bayern München, make up your mind).

English commentary pisses me off. God bless the red button. :pint:

best discovery ever when the euro and world cups were on was turning off english commentators and just listening to the crowd through the home cinema system:agree:

Except that "Ajax Amsterdam" is actually the club name, and same thing with Barcelona (or would you prefer Barca to just be called "FC", even though it would be a bit confusing?)

Whole concept was invented in radio days anyway. I don't need some jackass pointing out the obvious.
not so much the inaine commenatry that gets my goat, more the constant bleating on about how "england won the world cup in 66" "manure won the CL on a balmy night in barcelona" blah blah blah, all this when you are watching games that have no relevance to the actual game you are watching

All this talk of beating Bologna makes me want to beat my boloney.
The wife is making spaghetti for dinner for some friends tonight. Yesterday I told her, "As long as it isn't a bolognese sauce."

But I always find those comments particularly relevant while I'm watching River Plate play Boca Juniors. :D

did you ask for half a pound of mortadella instead?

But I always find those comments particularly relevant while I'm watching River Plate play Boca Juniors. :D
and river plate are storming down the wing....the same wing that david beckham swung in a fantastic corner on a balmy evening in barcelona..........

No, it's AFC Ajax (Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax).

Ajax, The AFC, The Amsterdammers, they're all fine with me. But Ajax Amsterdam sounds like something an amateur would say. Or a woman. It just sounds wrong.

Barcelona: fair enough. Though I have yet to come across any Dutch or German commentators consistently saying "FC Barcelona" throughout a match, which sounds too artificial.
