It's too bad Andy gives people the high hat for all the wrong reasons. Otherwise he's an alright guy IMO. I can understand why you don't like him though, Fli.
I'm a great guy if you know me personally. However, if you know me through a mere forum without ever verbally discussing anything with me, chances are you would probably hate me.

Fli you look like you are up to no good in that pic. But then you were probably up to no good. :p

Everyone is buying PS III and N Wiii and I am being a cheap bastard and getting myself a gamecube. I called every store in this country and not one carries a single Zelda game, how do you like that.

Yeah, I never get why people say that about themselves. Surely if you are a great guy, then it's clear to see. Otherwise convincing people won't really do much, cause why would they believe you?

See but that's the thing. I don't give a flying fuck whether people on a forum like me, as no offense to you Martin, but you're not really my friend. And furthermore, I most likely will never meet you... but that's not to say I wouldn't want to meet you. Most people on this forum think Burke is a complete disgrace to society, but in actuality he's a great guy as well.

It always boggles my mind how people love to draw conclusions on the real life personalities of people and also their beliefs/livelyhoods just through conversation on a forum. Perhaps when you start doing such a thing is when you know you've spent too much time on said forum.

But the fact of the matter is... nobody knows anybody on this forum unless you're a group of friends like Burke, Enron and myself.

It doesn't say anything to you as you don't know me personally.

And dear Lord I hope you never do. If I want to hang out with a kid in a flannel shirt who dumps beer over himself for fun I'm just a couple states away from West Virginia, you know.

However, I wouldn't mind meeting Andries. He seems like an interesting person in spite of his demeanor.

Andy, I don't remember saying anything about you since you first started posting here and people made fun of you all the time (in a good natured way). At the time, I said something but I don't even recall the what it was. Since then I don't recall offering my opinion.

But that's not really the point either. I just said that I think it's weird to say "I'm a great guy", because it sort of conveys all the wrong things. First of all, it's conceited, cause even if you are a great guy, it's silly to go around saying it. And secondly, I don't find it convincing at all. I find it a lot more convincing knowing who you are on the forum to form a positive opinion than for you to say "I'm a great guy" as if everyone will go "okay, let's give this guy a break". If someone said it *about* you, now that would be different. Anyway, I don't get why you felt the need to say it at all. I think Fli probably dislikes certain things about you, but on the whole he likes you. And the vast majority here like you too, including me.

In the first period of Burke being here, let's say the first half of the period since he joined up until now, I wasn't a big fan of his. And I never hid it or pretended otherwise. Especially as a moderator, he was a pain. But in the "2nd half" and up to the present, his forum persona has changed and in certain ways he's won me over.

I think the forum is fair. Everyone can be who they want to be, if you want to pretend you're someone else, go ahead. The rules are the same for everyone. If you think you know someone on a forum, there's always the added element of not knowing who you're dealing with. I've met about 12 people I've known on forums in real life and there is a bit of a transition, people do appear different. Even Erik doesn't appear quite the same here as he does when I talk to him myself. So obviously you can't be certain who the person is, but I think it is completely fair to judge based on who they are here, because that's common to us all, we do whatever we want on this forum and feel the consequences of others.

Besides, while I draw conclusions about certain things, certain opinions that people express, that doesn't mean I think I know what people around here really are like. I may disagree with Vinman on a bunch of stuff, but that's all it is, a disagreement. Sergio has come in several times to defend Vin saying "he's a great guy" and I've no reason not to believe that, it's not like I really know Vin.

See, now there's you doing it. I don't know if you're talking in jest or if you mean to imply that Fli isn't anyone you'd ever want to spend time with, based on some comments on a forum.

I have to say I agree with Andy here. It's just an internet forum. IMO most members represent "characters" on a forum rather than their actual personalities. Other than the religious extremists we know on this forum I haven't really judged anyone, simply because you're not able to. I don't know enough about Andy to decide whether I like him or not. And Fliakis and Erik might look like great guys to me, perhaps I wouldn't like them at all if I met them.

I just watched Borat by the way and I loved it. Certain moments appeared very odd to me though. The way New Yorkers react to someone saying "hello" being one of them. The rodeo freaked me out as well. The running of the Jew was simply too hilarious for words :D.

I think that that was an interesting take on it Martin, especially this portion:

Indeed. It is crazy to continuously state you're a great guy in real life... I wouldn't even begin to think of doing that. But on a forum in which I'm dealing with people whom I may or may not like and of course people I do not know, it doesn't really phase me to sound conceited about it. I mean, you don't know the real me; nobody besides Burke, Enron and perhaps a couple other people here know the real me. So if nobody knows the real me, and if I'm only on this forum to discuss Juventus (not enhance my social life), why would I care if I look a little conceited and stuck up all the time?

Perhaps if I really took this place seriously, I would try my best to make myself look like the "great guy I am" instead of acting otherwise. However, when I first joined this place, you yourself told me not to take everything so seriously as it's foolish to do so... it's merely an internet community which should not be drawn parallel with real life. And you're right.

:lol2: Come on, I don't expect Fliakis or anyone for that matter to believe me when I say I'm a great guy... that would not make much sense. It would be even more ridiculous to believe me while I declare myself to be a great guy.

And I don't really believe the majority of the forum likes me. I know for a fact Fliakis does not care for me, as well as a bunch of others whose names I could rattle off, but that really doesn't matter. Discussions such as these are just redundant. Caring about whether or not people like you on an internet forum is absurd.

I recall you saying Burke was the dumbest person you ever encountered on a forum. Man, that really says a lot about a first impression.

But all this leads to false impressions, which, of course, are unavoidable in this situation. That is why you must take every statement about oneself, especially within an argument, with a grain of salt. You do not really know what some person half the way around the world has been through and that person cannot expect you to care either.

See, now there's you doing it. I don't know if you're talking in jest or if you mean to imply that Fli isn't anyone you'd ever want to spend time with, based on some comments on a forum.
That's not the same thing at all, Martin. Such a comment is simply deduced from a photograph that includes notions based solely on said photograph, not anything else. I'm certainly not discussing his personality or real self, as I don't know him.

In other news, here's hoping the next time Paris Hilton and Britney Spears share the same vehicle someone such as Henri Paul steers them away from oncoming papazzi into the median of a Paris tunnel.
