We did not deserve two red cards in this game; every neutral I have seen has said we were unfairly sanctioned, so there is no point in discussing it anymore.

You're clearly too biased, Andries. I'll discuss this with people who are a little more objective.
You try to break an ankle you get red.

You take a man down who's going alone on goal, a possible red, you got away with yellow. The second yellow isn't even debatable.

I'll put you on my ignore list now as you're clearly going berserk after the USA managed to scrape away a point.

You guys still fighting over this? Italy was entirely rubbish, the US was quite good, the draw was a fair outcome.

And Del Piero is completely useless to the national team now. Sad but true.

Italy got 4 chances, Del Piero was involved in all 4 of them. You measure football by chances, Martin.

Del Piero: 4 chances.
Totti: 0 chances.

I know who I want next game.

Apology owed to Andy...I berated and criticized the US Team for their lacklustre performance against Czech and I really thought they were MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING...

I am glad I skipped the Ghana game and attended this one...the US played with all their heart and needed a game like this to show everyone they can punch with the best of them....they bled, they fought in 9 and in my opinion controlled the midfield in the second half..
that said, another 10 minutes and Italy would have scored while the US team failed to score a goal or come close: if this team had a lethal striker the next round would be assured.

Andy, after the match I got up and clapped for the US performance as they came around the bend where I was sitting..I received an official program thrown in the back of the head in the process...it was still worth it .. those guys deserved a round of applause :pint:
Good man, that is what I wanted to hear. Your apology is accepted and I'm glad you attended the match.

Personally I thought we controlled for much of the first half as well, and we did a great job roughing up Pirlo and making sure Totti could not do anything out there. I said before the match we had to clog up the midfield and pressure the likes of Pirlo and Totti hard, and it's good to see our side come out with fire in their bellies because fire and determination is the only way my side will excel.

People like to criticise the US for our extremely aggressive tackling, however if Italy would be playing Brazil in the next round I'm sure they would not have a problem taking out Ronaldinho and Kaka time and time again. If you want to beat the best in the world you must play tough, and with Gattuso and De Rossi in midfield there would be quite a lot of dodgy tackles, so I don't want to hear it. You do what you can to win matches, even if it means throwing your weight around and having 30 fouls. That's just football. Many people here like to whine about that, however they forget our Juventus won the Scudetto in 2005 while leading the Serie A in fouls. Just look at some of the boohooing around here. Funny, isn't it. Especially considering De Rossi made the most dirty move in the entire tournament thus far.

It's wonderful to see my side draw Italy and outplay them for most of the match, and it's also great to see people giving us some respect for a change. I think we were not prepared for the Czech match mentally and did not have the confidence to compete, so Bruce must have done something to give our boys the fire we need. Now we must find a way to beat the lightening fast Ghanian side which will cause us loads of problems, but if we play with that fire we will match them and hopefully take Essien and co. to the cleaners. We just have to find a way to put the fucking ball in the net, and the solution to that is starting Eddie Jonhson. He could be our savior come Thursday.

Cheers, Nick.

Don't tread on this.

PS: I told you people months ago we had a better chance against Italy than anybody else..

PPS: Europe better watch out for Clint the Deuce DEMPSEY

Oh I'm not saying he was worse than the others, but when all of them suck then it doesn't take much to be on par. Yes, he had the one difficult shot which I don't blame him for missing. The one from distance was way too easy for Keller. And apart from that I didn't see him do anything at all. He's way too slow to take on players, he doesn't pass anywhere but sideways, he doesn't make runs (except the one), that's about it really.

And Totti was just as bad, so what's the difference anyway in a contest of who can suck the most? (Please spare us your "witty" puns, people.)

Btw I was in Antwerpen briefly, today and Friday night. :)

Forgot to add: De Rossi should be suspended for at least two games for that vicious intentional elbow....all his talent is overshadowed by his inability to CARE about the rules of the game...he may have better feet than Gattuso but you will NEVER see Rino pull stupidity like that...

P.S. MOMENT OF THE MATCH

"GILARDINO SUONACI IL VIOLINO"
Like I said before, Italy should just prohibit Roma players from participating in the Italian National team. Those scumbags have fucked you over three tournaments running now, and you just would be better off without them. Totti is De Rossi's mentor anyway, so you can expect the loogies to be flying in Euro 2008.

They DO have a real striker. His name is Taylor Twellman, and for some unknown reason, Bruce Arena decided to leave him at home.
I don't have a clue why Taylor was left at home because Ching is absolutely worthless and Wolff is just a losel. Twellman would certainly add something to the team, however I think Bruce should start Eddie Jonhson on Thursday because he's the only one who can bang the goals in for us now. He came close a couple times against the Czechs and I don't have a clue why Bruce did not play him yesterday...I mean FFS Mcbride was dying out there from all the running he had to do.

This is the thing about Bruce. Then once again that dunderhead Pope fucked us over with his usual ball watching, throwing his hand up like an idiot for offsides instead of keeping close to Gilardino. Having him suspended for the next match could be a blessing in disguise because at least Conrad knows how to mark and doesn't ball watch all the fucking time. What the fuck is Pope doing here anyway...he even sucked a year ago against the English..

Other than those few selection choices, Bruce still worked some magic by giving our side confidence and fire. If we have that, we can beat almost anyone.

And Vinni, I truly understand your love for the Azzurri, as my love for them knows no boundaries. However, for you to call the Americans an "average" team and predict "utter destruction", coming from someone who is as patriotic about their country as yourself, is not only confusing and contradictory, but downright shameful.

I guess you are only patriotic in instances that only suit your needs.
I just don't find sense in bashing your own national team while being passionate about politics and clearly loving the country in which you reside.

OK Andy, I know you have been waiting for my assessment. I think the USA deserved more than a point. Pablo's red card was horseshit and perhaps some referees would have allowed the late USA strike to count.
Indeed, but you're an objective fan, unlike some other people.

Andy, amongst what teams would you rank team USA? Not just in the WC, but on any day.
I have always said the FIFA rankings are horseshit, and when I made my own list of how the rankings should look I placed the USA around the 11th or 12th spot in the world, hovering around or just before the likes of Serbia and Montengro and Sweden, while below the obviously superior Dutch.

Right now I would have to say we could beat the Serbs and Sweden, so I still think I am spot on with how I placed my side.

I'm sorry Nick but I think your Gila should be benched against the the Czech's in the last game and play Del Piero in his place.

It's Il Capitano time my friend,
Dude the days of pumping up Del Piero to NO end are OVER. Moggi pulled strings to get his players favorable headlines and calls up to the National but its over. Del Piero is such a non factor on the field that he is like added baggage....he doesn't support .. he doesn't feed and he desperately tries to score just to stop seeing visions of a horrible international career in his vision. I admire his loyalty and sportsmanship but he has never lived up to his name in international tournaments...all Del Piero fans have to think of is that goal against Mexico....
Since 96 we have been force fed this idea that he is the great Italian hope and he will lead Italia to great places...he didn't fail ..he never even tried. I am extremely sick of his special treatment...the same Juve fans that call for Vieri and Inzaghi to stay home have no problem saying Del Piero should be called. ANY OTHER PLAYER would never have gotten a FOURTH CHANCE like he has...Gilardino scores and Del Piero should start???

Wow...every four years..no matter what its the same story.

Pado..that goal was offside...it is offside in Italy..it is offside in England and offside in Antartica...not only was the player offside and interfering he also tried to tap it in...PLEASE.

The tie was well deserved ... some cards were a very STRICT application of the rules but let's not forget that the US didn't score a goal or really come close.

I think Lippi learned his lesson that he overrated Iaquinta. No more Iaquinta please, just because he scored a goal, everyone made him a hero.

I would prefer Gilardino or specially Inzaghi with Toni anytime, Toni is not doing bad anyway, he is unlucky, If I am not mistaken his two shots (in both matches) hit the post twice so far, so he is not away to score a goal.

And about Del Piero, I think he is more important than you think he is, he can come up in the second half and do his work, he wasn't bad against the US anyway..

No more Iaquinta, no more Del Piero. Italy needs Pippo.
