I am not happy with the Azzurri performance, or the player choices of Lippi (as I've stated many times regarding ZaccarDUMB and Iaquinta)

Andy better bring out the Italian flag for their match against the Czech's, and hope to get a victory against an inspired Ghana team, because that is the only way the USA goes through, and faces utter destruction against the Brazilians

after a good night of sleeping, my view on this match is simple.

Italy screwed up big time what should have been a win. After the 1-1, they were afraid to loose.
Credit goes to the US, who stayed motivated. Their mental and fitness were impressive. If they had a good finisher, they could've claimed more than a win.

De Rossi apologized to Mc Bride and to the Italians. The first one accepted. The second ones won't.

Apology owed to Andy...I berated and criticized the US Team for their lacklustre performance against Czech and I really thought they were MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING...

I am glad I skipped the Ghana game and attended this one...the US played with all their heart and needed a game like this to show everyone they can punch with the best of them....they bled, they fought in 9 and in my opinion controlled the midfield in the second half..
that said, another 10 minutes and Italy would have scored while the US team failed to score a goal or come close: if this team had a lethal striker the next round would be assured.

Andy, after the match I got up and clapped for the US performance as they came around the bend where I was sitting..I received an official program thrown in the back of the head in the process...it was still worth it .. those guys deserved a round of applause :pint:

Forgot to add: De Rossi should be suspended for at least two games for that vicious intentional elbow....all his talent is overshadowed by his inability to CARE about the rules of the game...he may have better feet than Gattuso but you will NEVER see Rino pull stupidity like that...

    P.S. MOMENT OF THE MATCH

The US lack a real striker..McBride was just always out of place and didn't even get ONE shot on net...anyone remember Buffon having to make any stops...Surely there must be a pure US striker out there who can be a nasty pest in front of goal..I think that watching the replays even if Zaccardo had not scored McBride would not have gotten to the ball on time..he was in a weird position..don't get me wrong..he played his heart out but not as a striker.
They had absolutely NO finishing whatsoever.

P.S. Yes Vinnie, better than a pissbomb :pint:

They DO have a real striker. His name is Taylor Twellman, and for some unknown reason, Bruce Arena decided to leave him at home.

And Vinni, I truly understand your love for the Azzurri, as my love for them knows no boundaries. However, for you to call the Americans an "average" team and predict "utter destruction", coming from someone who is as patriotic about their country as yourself, is not only confusing and contradictory, but downright shameful.

I guess you are only patriotic in instances that only suit your needs.

I'm sorry Nick but I think your Gila should be benched against the the Czech's in the last game and play Del Piero in his place.

It's Il Capitano time my friend,

I know I'm going pretty far with this statement, but:

Vinman isn't a patriot. Padovano is.

OK Andy, I know you have been waiting for my assessment. I think the USA deserved more than a point. Pablo's red card was horseshit and perhaps some referees would have allowed the late USA strike to count. Zaccardo is a decent player and I'm still wondering how he was able to shoot backwards, but what I wonder about even more is if Lippi ever thinks that Cristian Panucci couls round out the best defense in the World Cup. Stupid to leave him at home, as we have no alternative at Right Back.

I predicted a 1-0 Italy victory from day 1, and anm guilty of overlooking the USA, but I still think . . .

being patrotic about my country in terms of protecting where I live and my comments regarding the quality of our national team are like comparing apples to oranges Sergio

I would like to see the USA qualify for the next round, but not at the expense of Italy...and if they do get the second spot, I dont think they have much of a chance of beating Brazil

I guess those comments make me an anti- American Seven clone

thanks for stopping by Sergio :D

Andy, back to reality please. I have stated over and over again that I hate Totti, that I think he shouldn't even be on the team and that his presence is making Italy weaker. I like De Rossi because what he's capable of, but I think he should be sent home after yesterday. No need to make things up Andy.

Italy WERE in fact the better team, they had better chances. It's as easy that. You can choose not to acknowledge that and say Italy was piss poor, which they were, but the USA wasn't grand either.
We did not deserve two red cards in this game; every neutral I have seen has said we were unfairly sanctioned, so there is no point in discussing it anymore.

You're clearly too biased, Andries. I'll discuss this with people who are a little more objective.
