Now I know this doesn't sound very realistic, but what do you guys think about bringing Rui Costa to Juventus? I'll be the first to admit that I'm a great fan of the guy (after Del Piero he's my favourite player), but I think he could be of great use during the transition period we no doubt face. He'd be a buy to help us come through the next two years after which we should have found a better playmaker.

Hmm Rui Costa in his younger days was one of the best playmakers in the world. He might have another season in him at a topclub, but not as a starter for every match(though he should play more matches then he does at Milan at the moment). Again, he would bring in the much needed creativity.

OK, I have not seen Maresca one time at Sevilla, nor have I heard any reports. Hell, I have no idea about the outcome of today's UEFA Cup (for now), but based on what I have seen Maresca do in Serie A, then I agree with Andy. This guy has the creative skills that we lack. When Juve was pure horseshit in the 2003-04 season, Maresca was the best Juventus player we had, and it was too bad that Lippi realized this too late.

Maresca? I don't think I would normally bother fielding him over Emerson, Vieira, Nedved, or Camo. Loved him when he was on the team, but he would ultimately be bench material -- and we traded down our bench in order to afford upgrading the starting MF rotation. Sure, there's some question as to whether or not we got our money's worth. But Maresca would have been a non-starter, Capello or not.

And congrats to Maresca. But if Juve won the UEFA Cup this year, we'd have earned more snickers than praise.

Rui Costa? He's the kind of dribbling, creative player we lack -- even if he's well past his prime. Put him in Juve stripes and we'd turn him into a knuckle-headed DM, no question. And we'd all end up looking for yet another OM savior elsewhere as many juventini are today.

I was a fan of Rui Costa back in his old Viola days, however now he is simply too old to play for Juventus and would not really fit either with our system. I would much rather have someone such as Maresca at this point in time, but obviously he will never come back to the side that never gives him a chance.

We could really use those slick playmaking skills of Rui Costa, but I'm just afraid he is simply too old and worn out to play a major role for Juventus. If we want a playmaker we should really think about making a move for Rosicky, who can also play centrally or push out on the wing as an "anti-winger" sort of player.

Even the Maresca at Fiorentina last season had a bunch of stellar performances, spraying the ball over the pitch very nicely every single time I saw him play. The more I think about it the more it makes no sense our management continued to look past this guy...now he leads Sevilla to a European trophy and pulls through when the heat is on. Very very sad.

    ALL JUVE ALL THE TIME

Juventus CEO investigated for false accounting

The scandal surrounding Italian football spread on Tuesday with the revelation that Juventus CEO Antonio Giraudo was under investigation for false accounting.

Judicial sources in Turin said a magistrates investigation into Giraudo, related to Juve's transfer dealings, had been underway for sometime.

Serie A leaders Juventus are already under the spotlight of two magistrates' investigations looking into the business operations of their general manager Luciano Moggi.

Telephone taps published in Italian newspapers last week, featuring Moggi's conversations with senior Football Federation officials about refereeing appointments, have led the Federation to open their own investigation.

Moggi is being investigated by magistrates in Naples and Rome in two separate probes into football gambling and the operation of a management company owned by Moggi's son Alessandro.

The GEA management firm has nearly 200 players and coaches on its books and Rome magistrates have put them under investigation for "illegal competition with use of threats and violence".

The fallout from the publication of the telephone taps has led Football Federation president Franco Carraro to resign.

Juventus, whose owners have declined to give any public backing to Moggi and Giraudo, are due to hold a board meeting on Thursday.

Juve, who are bidding to retain the league title, are three points clear of AC Milan with one match left.

    -------------------------------------------------

Someone should have told Giraudo that EPO purchases could not be listed as a company expense :pint:

On another note.... FORZA MILAN :smoke:

The problem for Juve supporters is that there is so much crap -- from so many people who will yell "cheaters" at every corner -- that it makes us all very jaded. So much so that all that crying wolf makes it hard to discriminate the real serious allegations from "more of the same whining and sour grapes".

I fully believe there are shady dealings inside the club, and I would love to have the house cleaned. But accusations about Juve have become as common as boneheaded moves by Materazzi. So as a result, any one of them have lost weight and importance because of all the false-positives. Which is unfortunate for both sides of the issue. When both sides of a court case are always making sh*t up, it makes it difficult for anyone to believe anybody.

Good point ... but you know this is far from being another Cannavaro 'funniest home video' moment Greg..this may change the structure of the team and then some.

There are times where I think it well may. But then there are other times that I recognize that Juve is under a press silence -- so a lot of the flinging mud goes in only one direction right now -- and there are a lot of allegations and insinuations without much substantiation that we've been able to see yet. The only evidence I've really seen on the gravity of anything has really been at the FIGC more than anything, so it's largely circumstantial and heresay until we have more info. (While those phone transcripts are shady, from what I've seen I would hardly call for rolling heads if another club were caught saying the same things.)

In any case, maybe canning Moggi won't make most of these shadows go away. But I know he's certainly not helping matters.

Yes, this is a lot more serious. Financial irregularities and false accounting could be fatal. Think Parma. Think Lazio. Think Fiorentina. Think Enron. Not pleasant to think about.

It is becoming clear that Juventus has to address this image problem and it seems obvious that a house cleaning is on the cards. Guilty or not, when half the country thinks you are guilty because of a filthy image, it is time to address said image.
