I'm not sure they would need someone to hold the ball up with such a strong midfield. When Gerrard gets a bit more forward he can hold the ball up rather nicely, and with that midfield filled with a bunch of talented players they should have a lot of the posession. I seriously cannot see Crouch or any other forward besides Rooney and Owen starting for England.
see i remember juve having a strong midfield and no pressense up front and look where that got us......just saying...........

no i am saying that when the team are under pressur eand need a forward to hold the ball up michael owen is not the player for that, especially on his own up front. the reason the owen rooney partnership works is because rooney works well as the link between front line and midfield. owen up front on his own would be a massive step to england limping out of the tournament
He wouldnt be alone up front... he would be playing next to stevie in exactly the same role as wayne plays... something stevie has done time and time again in the last 18 months... im not talking about playing with 5 mids and owen as a lone striker... im talking about playing stevie and owen up top togeather...

True, however if you look at Barca and Eto'o he's not exactly a player who can hold up the ball up for a long time and relies on his speed to break through...they have not seen many problems with their talented midfield. And like I said if Gerrard is playing behind Owen, he, like Rooney, will see very much of the ball.

ok, see where you are going there. feel stevie g's best place is in midfield working hard for the england cause and lampard would be better further forward as he is more of a natural in front of goal (while gerrard is better smashing long distance strikes) but i still feel that in a tight world cup game you need a strong pressence up top to make a real impact and apart from owen and rooney england will struggle, while gerrard can play further forward unless you have carrick in there to work the ball through then england might struggle. i honestly feel that carrick will be kicking his heels this summer and that is a waste

You cant leave joe cole out anyway... Hes been on fire this season and has slotted into that left england role very well indeed...
Indeed. I was just looking for some more bite in midfield because Carrick is not all sound defensively...but unfortunately Parker is not available. I would drop Beckham for Joe if it would come to that, however I suppose a straight four in midfield with Lamps and Carrick in the center and Cole and Becks on the wings could work out well. But you still have to question the midfield when they do not have the ball..

Instead, RTP owes its name more to the Bermuda Triangle -- because educated humans who ventured down there from more civilized parts of the world often disappeared, never to be seen again. Surrounding RTP is a jungle infested with a morass of mutated DNA, half-men-half-wild-boar, and feral humans who choose to sodomize themselves rather than the Duke lacrosse team.

Yes, we are a race of pig-men. Half Pig, half man.

That is why I moved back to Asbury Park, NJ yesterday.

i think swen will go with owen - crouch. sure crouch is not something special but england have other players who can score and crouch can be good in the air. btw joe cole plays on the right side or can play on the left also?

If so, who are they going to field? You simply cannot field Crouch because he's horrible and would come at the expense of Cole or another talented midfielder. With such a strong midfield like that, as well as Gerrard having a free role up top, there is no need to worry about a true forward holding the ball up and no reason fielding Crouch just for that purpose, in my opinion. Sides with class in midfield do not always need a prototypical forward holding the ball up..

As for Gino, he goes around talking nonsense to other members half the time and rarely makes a useful post. And correct me if I'm wrong, however isn't he from Holland? He has attacked me personally several times, so I have no problem with people making fun of his intelligence or ridiculing his imitating clown act.
We have plenty of people like Gino in Holland, however, Gino himself is from Belgium. The Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, but Belgium nevertheless.

What made you assume he was Dutch? The whole marihuana-attitude? :D

He generally plays on the right for chelsea and He plays on the left for england... but his natural position is actually through the middle behind the front 2...

what about that Bent, he played against uruguay in the friendly with rooney upfront, maybe this time erics will go with owen-bent.

Though personally i dont see a problem playing with just one striker upfront. england have enough quality in the midfield, players who can score goals, and from distance.
