I pick on Gino for saying that he would punch his father in the face if he ever tried to stop him from using marijuana...but I guess your commie-ass would agree with that, because I forgot that communists have no family values
Vinman, could you please stop drawing comparisons between (what you consider to be) negative aspects of countries/cultures/peoples and communism? Correct me if I'm wrong; but I recall having seen you use communist-insults towards the European way of life several times when it was brought up (for instance discussions on the death penalty, taxations, politics etc).

Western Europe has tried and is trying very hard to find a compromise between communist and capitalist values through socialist systems. Communism fell a long time ago in Europe, but not before dragging millions of innocent people with it in its downfall. I take offence to the comparison between modern Europe, striving to guarantee human rights and equality through a unique economic, political system and the discriminating, lethal, destructive and horrible communist systems that hit the Eastern part of the Continent so hard they are still recovering and will likely need several more decades to even remotely shake off that legacy from hell.

Anyone can hate our systems, think they're outrageous, unfair, discriminating, soft and weak. That's their right. But don't compare it to communism; nobody has that right.

Going by internet forums alone, I've met far more Belgian pot smokers (at least those who celebrate it as a lifestyle) than I have Dutch ones.
That could be; given that the governmental policy has caused a (small) decline in marihuana users in the Netherlands. I could be wrong; but the opposite is true for surrounding nations.

what about that Bent, he played against uruguay in the friendly with rooney upfront, maybe this time erics will go with owen-bent.

Bent, like ashton is a good player but neither of them have international or even european experience... As such its less of a risk to use what we know...

With Rooney effectively ruled out , i wil like Joe cole to be played behind the striker, not sure who that will be now as Owen to is struggling even if , i have never been a fan of his, owen thats is.But Rooney is a huge loss

Exactly how many options does England have left up front with Rooney gone and Owen doubtful? Who are they? I can't really think of any names... Certainly not names that would inspire fear in most defences in the tournament (barring the Dutch defence)

cole would work well... especially with the way downing has been playing lately (so taking joes place on the left), but i would still pick stevie to play that role... it also makes more sense to play stevie there what with sven's insistence on playing lamps and stevie in every match even though they conflict each other... They wouldnt in that scenario

Why are you so down on the Dutch? I do not think they are bad at all, topping their group as they did and beating Czech rep, home and away. As for England there are players like Defoe, Bent, Ashton, Crouch but noone and i mean noone is anywhere near Rooney. I wouldn;t have minded Owen missing as I have never liked him but Rooney is just different

Maybe Paul butt I dont know about you but I have never seen Gerrard duplicate his Liverpool form playing for England whilst Joe Cole has just been a revelation since Mourinho came to Chelsea and i thought he was brilliant against both paraguay and Argentina

He did many times... If you remember there was a long period where we never lost when stevie played... The end of his stunning performances for england pretty much coincided with lampards emergence onto the england scene...

Most of the good games either of them have had for england since, have come at the expense of the other or when only one of them play... (eg. one plays well the other bad or if either one of them do not play then the other allmost allways plays well)

They jus arent compatible... however playing stevie further forward gives more scope for them both to express themselves without getting in eachothers way...

Defoe is pretty much the only name I could come up with. Rooney is in a different league than Owen, I would say.

And did you see the matches against the Czechs? We won those because of luck and referee-assistance. Marco van Basten is the single luckiest coach I have ever seen; but not necessarily the best one. The Italy match revealed exactly why we will not win the world cup: our defence (including the defensive midfielders) is below par. Our midfield and attack are good, but nothing special compared to other nations. We don't have enough quality to play with a 4-4-2 (or similar) system, so we use wingers because most defenders don't face wingers on a regular basis and we have a small element of 'surprise' that way. However, barring Robben, we don't have any wingers of really good quality and with Ruud van Nistelrooy on fluctuating form, I would consider this world cup successful if we would even progress from the group stages (which I deem unlikely at this point).

Didn't he break his foot against Portugal?
Yep. Jorge Andrade stepped on Rooney's ankle when he veered towards goal in a counterattack rundown in the Euro 2004 quarterfinals. (Rooney stepped oddly, jutting out his ankle right where Andrade's boots came down.)

This time it was Andrade's NT teammate, Paolo Ferriera, with the collision. Conspiracy? ;) Nah. Andrade is likely out of the WC also, FWIW.
