Let’s imagine that Juventus and Milan (or only Juve) are demoted to lower division. It will crush the whole Italian football and first of all ‘smaller’ clubs. Status of Serie A will immediately decrease. Star players will go abroad, as no club in Italy can pay their wages. Also there would be no point for Inter or other rich clubs to pay huge salaries just to beat Ascoli or Chievo, as there wouldn’t be real rivals. Such players as Zambrotta, Vieira, Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet, Emerson, Mutu, Del Piero, Buffon (also Milan stars Sheva, Gila, Seedorf, Kaka etc) will leave Italy. Serie A will become smth like Dutch or French championship. This would crush Italian football, because interest toward it will drop immediately, decreasing amount of money circulating in the game (such as TV rights, transfer fees, sponsorship deals). This could result also in economic drop. So there is no point to demote such great club as Juve, which is also a huge financial and economical institution. I’m sure that those, who will make a final decision on these subjects will take this idea into consideration. Milan had been demoted in early 80’s, but the game significantly changed from that times and demotion of Juve will mean havoc for calcio.
