I guess people are different but I get the impression that for some the closest person to them becomes the kid, not the spouse, probably because of how the relationship is different, being responsible for someone rather than just being with someone.

Well responsibility in the sense that here is a little person who is dependent upon you whereas your spouse isn't.

You mean like a birth with complications or something? Well I very well may be deluding myself but I always thought I would never have any doubts. To trivialize the problem enormously, you can always have another kid right?

I dont have a kid at the moment,or a spouse for that matter.So i cant really comment on something that i dont have any emotional experience of.But as far as parents and siblings are concerned,for me my mother comes first,then my brother and then my father.But thats just me.

I think there's a tendency,and im not talking about everyone,to put the spouse before the parents.What you're talking about is probably the ideal situation,but a lot of people that ive come across actually value their spouse more than their parents.
