This casual reckless attitude is something that almost seems typically American.

But remember it has hurt a lot of Americans too. Whenever they're off to war they still act like the British in 1914. 'Home by Christmas', you know? So freaking naive. And then they come back without legs.

I wouldn't say it's exclusive to americans, because we have enough of them in europe, but it does seem americans are less empathetic about it. At least our goverments aren't run by a retarded evil monkey.

It is sickening how everybody is talking about these events. I get it, most of them live on the other side of the planet in a worm and cozy place and have no idea but still some thought that these actions are everyday events (like raining bombs) of syrian people life, people just like you and me. How fucking awful it would be to live in a place where 50 bombs in a neighbourhood would be just another day in a week.

No sympathy or empathy in them, that is fucked up. And all this does it devalues even more the life of these middle eastern people everyday. These comments in such light hearted manner only adds to the brainwashing that somehow their life is not important in grand scheme of things.

Most people in Europe have at least a grandparent who directly experienced WW2, or even more recent events e.g. in Yugoslavia. That massively impacts your perception as well.

Trump is doing exactly what Andy didn't want the next president of the US to be doing. And instead of recognising his glaring mistake, he chooses to go deeper into the abyss. Why? I haven't, but I believe there are primarily two reasons for this.
1. Fear of the other. Let's be honest, this is not limited to Republicans, but is a common trait among most socio-economic/ethnic/religious groups around the world. However, since people in the deep south are more likely to live in more insular and non-diverse communities, they are more prone to fall prey to identity politics.
2. Propaganda is a powerful tool. For decades the GOP, and to a large extent the Democrats have waged a war against anything seen as remotely 'socialistic'. Hence the knee-jerk reaction to government spending programs, despite not having even basic knowledge about the federal budget and basic economics.
