It should have been fairly obvious to everyone that people mean that the person who insists on building a wall is racist, rather than the wall itself. I assumed we all realised inanimate objects are not capable of having opinions, but apparently I was wrong.

I love the Democrats = Pro-slavery part. So awesomely deranged when people bring that up as though it has anything at all to do with the modern Democratic party.

Interesting article here on how the Republicans and Democrats basically switched sides over the years on civil rights... such things were always progressive politics, and there are (or at least were) both progressive democrats and progressive conservatives, which people tend to forget in this modern era of partisanship and walking the party line.

It should have also been fairly obvious to everyone that walls between the USA and Mexico already exist near security checkpoints and common border crossings. So it's puzzling why proposing to put up a wall for any in-between spaces suddenly becomes racist.

When José Pedraza won the silver at the 1968 Olympics for the 20k walk, opening the door for non-divers in Mexico to take medals in track & field (albeit mostly for 20k walking).

Because it wasn't even the wall at all -- you're saying that it was the perceived racist overtures regardless of whether it was a wall, a garden hose, or a curbside gutter he was talking about.

I'm saying he wants to build a wall because of racist motives. The wall is something that, as a form of border control, is terribly outdated and not cost effective at all. The only reason he proposed it is that it sounds good to xenophobic morons. So in that sense I see it as a racist symbol.

It really isn't. It is to gain support from the marginalized middle class (and of course what you wrote). Dude, we're in a time where nationality, traditions and the existing economy are dissolving. Neither Europe or North America have come up with a pragmatic solution to this. From an economic point of view, Europe is in a lot trouble and Trump is aware of this.
