I appreciate your effort to make this shit have a good ending but the reality is that that stupid photos of his will be one of the most iconic photos of our time and Agent Orange is winning this shit.

Which means that countries like mine are fucked.
Yep

Trump winning is a disaster for countries like Poland, Estonia, Lithuania etc. This Putin cocksucker is so winning it and will set the world on fire in the process. Its putrid.

The man just had 8 gunshots fired at his head from, somewhat, close range and was hit in the ear by one of them, no doubt hearing others wizz past and is immediately tackled to the ground by security. In the moment he is standing up, he has no idea how superficial the injuries are That must have been traumatizing and he was probably in shock

Most sane, empathetic human beings (yes, regardless of how much you might hate Trump) are not going to have the above response to those images and that you fail to see that is uh surprising.
I think you misunderstood.

Trump's fans are NOT sane, empathetic human beings. That's the entire point. They'd mock Biden if it happened to him. They expect the impossible from Trump. They very well might believe it makes him look weak, because he's scared.

I don't see how Trump would be getting any Biden votes over this. It's not going to matter for those people.

Here’s where I disagree.

I don’t care much about arguments above about education or economics in the US.

But how come that I live in a continent, in a union, with more inhabitants than the US, but completely reliant on their support for our safety. And on China for our production, and before on Russia for our energy. It’s a disgrace.

Therefore, the sooner we get a American president who says things as they are: American taxpayers are paying for Estonian safety, the better it is for us. We need our own defence industry and not getting nurtured by the USA.

Small nuance here I think that Trump uses words to scare Eurocrats when he said ‘if they don’t pay invade them’, I don’t expect him to actually go that far. But the last thing this continent needs it getting nurtured. Besides that his words had effect, countries suddenly did meet the 2% GDP.

No, man. People keep trying to apply logic to this. We've been doing that since 2016. But that's just not how this works. The kind of people who could be swayed by these pictures are not the kind of people who vote on rational grounds. If you put Trump on a pedestal high enough to make him a God, him bleeding is not a good look. Gods don't bleed.

And he probably made it worse by appearing meek and solemn in the days after. He talks of reconciliation, he talks of lowering the temperature. That's not what his fans want though.

That is such a naive opinion. Defense expenditure does not exist in a vacuum. You always pay one way or another. The US wouldn't offer security to Europe, if it wasn't in their best interest economically.

I do agree that Europe needs to invest more in building its own armed forces. But the idea that we haven't paid for any of it until now is flat out false.

This is what I mean. This is not rational. Trump has not tried to make any contact, but Biden actually took out time from his schedule. In a rational world that would garner him some sympathy.

Instead you get this: ""I didn't talk to Biden. I didn't want to talk to him," adding, "My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him." ".

The dude is literally dead, because he got sucked into the cult. Maybe reconsider?

I know I'm investing in Maybelline.

The majority of the country didn't want it overturned though. That's where we have some flaws in the system. And the possibility of restoring Roe is probably the only chance the Dems have at this point to win in November.
Repeat after me: America is not a democracy.

But let's also not forget that the first thing Trump did and thought of after shots were fired and the SS jumped on him: "Let me get my shoes. Let me get my shoes!"

People let this slide.

It's not like he has a Pado-like shoe fetish (he has way other kinks involving fast food from what I can tell). And it's not like he takes his shoes off whenever going on stage. Those shoes came off when the bullets flew and he got tackled by the SS.

He asked for his shoes because the guy is still fighting Ron DeSantis in a calceological war of mutual escalation. Some have long said: shoe lifts.

Ah yes, the tiresome shoe lift rumor. But has clearly has a weird height and hands fetish, remember.

Rumor has it he wanted his shoes back to keep up the ruse for appearances. Only then did he decide to rise up and show his fist. Mission accomplished.

You're not going to re-convince his base. The Kool-Aid pitcher is empty. The best you can do is get them off their ass to vote. Or "fight!", as they say. ("Vote!" would sound too emasculated for them. Even if we're supposedly in this period of toning down rhetoric. :haha:)

As for those on the margins, a few might be swayed. But it's still four months. And I sincerely doubt people on the margins have a long memory.

And his base wants confrontation, not collaboration. MAGA isn't Bush's Republicans, it's Tea Party.

I don't think a lot of people connect that U.S. military hegemony is tied to U.S. currency hegemony, which is tied to their bond debt interest rates. You pull back the military, you risk losing foreign investors dropping your debt, causing the interest rates to rise to become more attractive.

That might not be helping much anymore now given how badly the U.S. is dumping new bond debt like a Temu warehouse.

What's weird about that to me is Trump's selective optics. His PR minions regularly promote how he makes calls to the families of people murdered by illegal immigrants so they can stick it to Joe Biden because he didn't show up at the funeral.

But the family of the guy murdered at his political rally gets squat? So strange these choices of what to ignore and what to glorify.

I bet Trump is going to realise exactly that in the coming days.

It's why I said he looked weak and scared in the pictures. And talks about cooling things off? That sounds even more like he's scared. That's not what his base wants to hear at all. I expect him to pour gasoline on the fire in the next few days and weeks.

Honestly I will refrain from making any sort of predictions on US economy. On the face of it, it all looks crazy and untenable.

It's not the first time either. Trump has zero empathy for what happens to his fans. Another reason why him getting shot is not a great look. The very nature of the Trump way is saying that whatever happens to you, it's on you. The dude mocks victims of crimes all the time. It's why he doesn't have to care if his fans get hurt. His base will assume it's a loser who had it coming. That's how these people think. Trump has this entire image built on how bad things would never happen to him, because he's all knowing and strong.

So how come he got shot? Getting shot is for the weak.

Anybody in the middle of getting shot at is probably going to look weak and scared. Nobody knew what was going on.

I don't think he's scared. I think he's great at seizing an opportunity and knowing the importance of image to his base.

The cooling off stuff seems like necessary lip service to me. The only respect his dead supporter will get for his sacrifice. But he'll be full of adjectives soon enough. Give it a few days.

The difference now is that he feels like its his election to lose now, which it is. So he could be a little more cautious and calculating and less risky. Especially since the Biden camp was doing its best at imploding for a week.

It will be interesting to see if he plays out the rest of the campaign defensively.... going all Allegriball. I don't think he will, but there could be an element of that.

Ah, getting shot isn't for the weak if you survive it though.

That last part are your words. I’ve never said that. There’s a difference in having a army and meeting your agreements.

Its been clear here for years that even though The Netherlands has a army, it isn’t capable of defending its own country simply due to being stripped down over the last decades. You can Google it if you don’t believe me you speak Dutch. Add that most EU countries weren’t meeting the 2% GDP and a simple conclusion is that we have a huge problem.

I definitely believe you. That's the case for Belgium as well.

I know the European Union is basically an economic union. It's about creating a larger European market. But I believe that, if we want to create an actual army worth its name, this most likely has to be a Paneuropean effort.

I am no Trump fan and generally the state of US politics is sub-optimal but the whole idea that if Trump wins the world goes to shit is also completely overstated.

In fact, the role of government in general is overstated. Yes Trump is unlikeable - a narcissist? absolutely. But ultimately, he won't change things that much - much like he didn't change things much last time. The people that vote for him are a combination of working class and rich people - the former being misguided and the latter informed.

Do you really think that? And do you mean only in the context of the US? Because I’d say the role of the govt is pretty significant.

Completely dude - in an open market economy absolutely. The great successes of the US economy all came from the government doing NOTHING. Its a different story for controlled economies like China where the government plays a far bigger role.

You actually need a government for an open market in the first place lol.

I don't think the role of the government can be overstated. I do agree with you that the world will not end if Trump is elected president.

Like seven said, that is due to a us govt that is very corporate friendly. It doesn’t mean that can continue to be the case forever.

I wouldn’t say the govt has done nothing, they are slow absolutely but they do make things happen.

a lot of services we take from granted are due to the govt, a lot of prices being so low are due to govt subsidies, among many other things
