Thats exactly one of the reasons that Maradona was so overrated.
Because people rated his false rebel sentiments that guided his life in the name of communism/socialism. But the truth is that he was never smth out of ordinary and never had any real choice to do anything better than that.
Consider where is he coming from and you will see that his choices were not really his. The coca thing, only proves how weak he really was, the "hand of the God" and his behavior towards his son, only prove how ruthless he really was.
He wouldnt sacrifice his interests for his well being, never ever!!
Thats really ironic that he has become the symbol of quite the opposite,
by those iconic social rebels, only because they need a popular hero of common origin...
Interesting point of view.

watched sicko for the second time and to be honest i loved it!! i've always wanted to do this for my country specially the example in England and France. the medical insurance system over here is even worse than the one in the United states of America.

i've been thinking about how it could be done here in Egypt it would be my dream come true and one of my ambitions to have this system set up here. off course its easier said than done bec it depends on loads of factors, these factors are clearly displayed in this documentary\movie.

After watching it for the second time i came to this conclusion:

1- when a country has a strong economy the following improves drastically:

A- awareness in the community about the importance of the presence of such a system.

B- increase in quality of education increases and hence much more broader ways of thinking in things such as importance of health in the community, nation and world.

C- with increased strength in economy more resources are present for backing up such a program.specially when u consider sth like: aids, cancer, antibiotics, infant nutrition etc etc are sectors which cost a lot go for 6.75 pounds ( english sterling) which is a very tiny price to pay for medicine. there are also cases as displayed in the documentary not always are these 6.75 pounds paid, there are rules that allow people above the age of 60 from paying!! which is sth 60 year old in this country could wank on!!!!!! thats how bad it is here.

D- in a country like Egypt where people dislike, hate, or don't feel comfortable with paying extra money or accept a slight deduction in wages that go into there medical insurance simply bec they take very low wages and life here is expensive so with better education, awareness, and increased income these things could change and people would gladly put money into medical insurance.

thank god i'm one of the fortunate citizens who to an extent can do with out medical insurance but there are millions of other people here who would rather spend on there children s education or well being than getting treatment due to how expensive medication here is expensive ( not medicine, we have one of the cheapest prices int he region but surgeries, cancer drugs are way toooooooooo expensive for the average Egyptian citizen)

its my dream to help bring this system into effect specially that i'm a pharmacy student and soon god willingly i will be a pharmacist and hence one of my main responsibilities is the well being of people health and nothing would make me a happier man than helping every one who needs such a service bec falling sick whether its a simple cold , fever, cancer, etc etc could happen to any one of us.

one of the ways that can work here, is if pharmaceutical companies agree on turning in a suitable percentage of there profits into this system int he form of a return to there community. i understand these pharmaceutical giants have profits as there main goal but there is an ethical obligation for them to give back sth to there community. proper % of taxes should be included into this system ( ironically only 20% of Egyptians pay there taxes, due to loads of factors primarily lack of awareness about what taxes do) and finally at schools the younger generation should understand that its one of there rights to have full medical attention and counseling when it comes to there health and the health of there loved ones.

This is very nice and you are very ambitions but in a government like the Egyptian, all the money for medical insurance will go into someone's pockets the same way the taxes go to their pockets.. nothing will be fixed except for some officials will get more money.
The Best hospitals of Egypt are to this day, shit holes...
If you want to make a difference leave Egypt while you can... i think its beyond saving

thats true no denying that, in fact i have been told the exact same thing by every one!!

if i would do this it wont be now at all, i still need to sort my career out, i need to rumble in this business specially that i dont want to be a pharmacist who works at a drug store. my ambition is to work in the buisness/marketing/ sales sector of medicine. this would def open my eyes to more realities. i have lived here only for 7 years so i still dont know everything i need to know about how things work here.

you are not egyptian?
I am and i'd take my first chance to get out of this shit hole
yup i am, i do agree on yr second bit thats every ones wish at least every one with brains and who had a proper education. i have been laughed at when i told my friends that i wanted to this so u can imagine the amount of faith every one has in a proper life. :frown:

i think i might try one time, i will check with a prof at my uni who is a microbiologist if he fulls on his ass and laughs his heart out then i will simply walk away and forget about this enitre issue. simply not bec it cant work, or cant be applied, or that we dont deserve such a service but bec WE DONT WANT IT TO WORK which is the case i realize now.

Central do Brasil - Loved it  It dragged on for a bit too long though.
Glad you enjoyed it. I agree that it got a little too long at the end, but it's still a great movie.

Just saw Rudo y Cursi in the theater. If you've seen many a footie movie, you probably won't be too surprised by this one. But it's slightly unusual. Some of the best parts include Gael García Bernal singing Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me" in Mexican Spanish with a cowboy hat on. :D

I swear I must have seen every movie Gael García Bernal has been in. But it's an entertaining thumbs up, even if it didn't break much new ground. And a great soundtrack to boot.
