Quantum Of Solace-7.5 out 10

you know i think i can see what the problem is here, it is a good action movie, but it ain't really a Bond movie! James Bond has become more than a movie character, he has become an institution, the Pierce Brosnon films were fuckin terrible, far too cheesy but folk still flocked to see them for the guns, gadgets, girls and,em....one liners. the fact that they were god awful films made no difference, people went to watch them out of a warped sense f loyalty!

now, however,James Bond has moved on,sure the girls are there, sure the aston martin is there but Bond has become a hard, emotionless killing machine. in the previous Bond movies he usually "killed" someone just out of shot and then had a quick one-liner, not this Bond,he just kills mercilessly. this bond is charming, but ruthless and i think that makes folk a little nervous in a way.

the other point is the direction, bond has always been glossy, polished but in these movies the action if frantic, they have taken a leaf straight out of the Bourne movies and added shaky-hand-held action which add a certain adrenaline rush to the action sequences and give you an idea of the struggle involved, but again this is not Bond!

personally i really liked the film, thought it was a good way to tie in with casino royal yet give a bit of an end to the whole thing, even if it is not as good a film . Bond has finally moved with the times and i,for one, could not be happier but the rumbling will continue for some time i think

that's the problem rob, people love the gadgets, the one liners, myself included, bond has become nothing more than a watered down jason bourne now, although i agree a new direction was needed, i think they have gone too far, not enough was explained, i mean what the hell happned to mr white......the one liners were cheesy but that's what bond was a about, her majesty's finest, bit of the old english charm, which is just about still there but not much and not really humerous anymore, i was dissapointed to be honest, casino royal was decent, but this film was a bit thin on the story and a bit too much on the action

Is that what you think Casino Royale was, Bozi? A Jason Bourne ripoff? A piss poor one in any event, if you ask me.
no, but the new one is

@rehan- the bond franchise was dying on its arse, i feel the whole story is yet to be told and will carry on into the next one.

for me Connery was the best Bond because he was charming but HARD,Moore played it camp and just for laughs and i always felt the movies since then have tended to carry that formula. now at last we see Bond as merciless, will not let anyone or anything stand in his way and displaying a little charm as well. it is a huge improvement on the last dozen bonds IMHO, though not perfect it is certainly bringing Bond iinto the 21'st century.......though his legions of fans may not like that at all

To me Bond is a little bit like.... Superman. In the sense that he has such a big advantage on his adversaries that he can afford to be gentle when the circumstances allow it. What's more, he has a brain that solves most of the problems for him, there's no need for violence for violence's sake.

So why should he be hard when he can just be sly? Screwing with their head is a lot more satisfying than beating them up.

that's a good point, the bond franchise was dead pretty much, BUT another problem with quantum is the villain, he has to be the most piss poor villain ever, some girly looking peodophile who sounds like he wants to be analy probed by bond, i mean common!!!

agreed on connery, he was the best easily

from russia with love

Tatiana: I think my mouth is too big!
Bond: It's just the right size.........uh, for me that is. :smoke:

nah bond's greatest weapon was his willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done, the quips came from roger moore's inability to pull off any sort of fight scene, sure bond should be intelligent but his brute force was as deadly as his wit

yeah he is a weedy villain and his sidekick was even worse but the whole premise of the film is still that he was just the messenger boy of this shadowy agency that they are slowly beginning to uncover (damn that sounds familiar) he was not a genius villain but a vehicle for the real villains to carry out their schemes

oh and that bond quip...whatever could he mean?:smoke:

Bond, was decent enough. Good action and Daniel Craig is brilliant, but I felt that the story was quite weak and shallow for a spy movie, they concentrated too much on the action, and next to nothing of the plot that initially started very promising in its elaborate scheming. It just felt like a backdrop, a prop to have around between action scenes.

I love Spy thrillers, and FFS James Bond should have spy intrigues etc.

But cant complain, I got to see Olga for 2 hours :D

Martin-as if to confirm my very, very low opinion of you (you support an italian team, i mean, wtf?)

you like WallE and didn't like Bond?!!!!

i thought the first bond made sense because at the end, he changes completely, and because of that, it does actually make sense. perfect movie, no. good movie, definitely! and that chase scene was pretty intense.

and. one more thing. Sean Connery was the best
