You gotta blame the "fans" that jump on rating their fav films, like alien vs. predator, with double accounts and stuff. Once a film has over 10,000 votes it offers quite a realistic rating on the film imo. Usually.
No, it doesn't. Because all you get is 10,000 loyalists who vote the movie up into the heavens, and they have enough critical mass to be taken seriously on imdb as a whole. which further pushes the movie up the site rankings.

Need proof?

That's just one but there are lots of examples like this. I used to take the ratings seriously, but that's a mistake.

Here's another:

We obviously have a different criteria, but almost all of my fav movies are in the top 20 and therefore I do watch their ratings as they give me at least something to go by, to start with.

Borat is a funny movie, you can hate him or love him I am yet to meet someone who has not laughed at that movie.

Men In Black has 6.8 which is pretty low. Personally I don't watch movies that have under 7.0 unless it was recommended to me by someone, or I have already rent it or downloaded it.

Well yeah it's an indicator but I just don't take it seriously anymore. Sometimes it's right on the money, sometimes it's completely ridiculous.

Even so, imdb gives it 7.8, tell me how that's not ludicrous.

Well it is a little high, personally I don't even consider it a movie at all, but hey it created a boom like no other comedy has ever done before. People liked it, voted high for it and that's it. No one in their right mind will consider it to be a good movie, it's just something that can make you laugh.

Personally I find it more ludicrous that LOTR: Return of the King has a 8.8.

Film IMDB Rottentomatoes.com
Borat 7.8 90%
Men In Black 6.8 91%

Rottentomatoes aggregates reviews from professional critics. Those are popular films. That's all a high score reflects. A widely loved piece of eye candy is going to get the same score as a deeply profound and interesting movie.

..

Imdb's reviews are indeed a joke. Yahoo movies are the best review-wise, as you can compare both the critics opinions and other viewers.

"How High" has a 5 rating(should be higher, i think 6.5-7 would be fair enough in comparison with the other imdb ratings)
"White Chicks" as well(it has a 4.9 rating):disagree:
