American Sniper - What a load of diarea. Seriously WTF This is how Hollywood wants to make a good war movie:
1) have a guy that wants to defend a country and he simply needs to have a wife, if possible pregnant
2) one of the guys needs to die, who's close to our 'hero', and have him deliver something to his wife/girl
3) somebody needs to die and you need a funeral so you see a wrapped up American flag so you sympathise with their loses in wars
4) the main guy needs to be fucked up because of the war, it left consequences of course
5) revenge

We've seen dozens of movies like this, yet this one comes out and offers absolutely NOTHING new. I bet if it was wasn't for Eastwood and Cooper nobody wouldn't even watch it. I see people hail Bradley Cooper. For what exactly? LOL. That was such a horrible role that you can't take any credit for being a good actor. Anybody could've taken that role and do just as good ffs. Camera shooting? Meh. Dialogs? Absolutely disgusting. Also... American Sniper? Seriously? You couldn't think of a fucking better name? During the whole movie I was like 'ok... ok... we'll see something happen now'. And nothing did. What a stupid brainless 'action'. Oh... my... god. It left me speechless. What a load of shit.

I heard it's based on a book, but I didn't know it was real events. I just thought some made up story.

It still doesn't make it any better. In fact, I have no idea why would anybody read such a book.

Yeah, I have. But honestly I liked Platoon more. Apocalypse Now (if you can call it a war movie), Saving Private Ryan, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Full Metal Jacket, Paths of Glory, The Thin Red Line... they all wipe the floor with this crappy movie.

I'm so irritated by American Sniper... can't even describe it... No idea what's wrong with people who actually like that stuff. It's brainless at best.

Why are people so excited about Grand Budapest Hotel?

It really is a great movie.

Ralph Fiennes put in a masterpiece performance as Gustave H.

As someone said earlier, the pacing of the film is perfect, there is no down time, where you would expect at least some in a movie like this.

I've been a fan of Wes Anderson's for a while, but I honestly think this is his best work.

The lines are very witty, and Fiennes delivers them so well. I don't usually gush about movies but this one is really good.

I saw 2 girls, 1 cup.

Progressive way to handle nouveau media types. Social media is the nouveau platform for progressive indie artist. Artist that the mainstream studios do not want to give a chance 'cause they fear a lack of commercial success. The interesting and very intelligent way of critizing society that you see come thru in a very subtle manner in the extras to 2 girls, 1 cup (reaction to 2 girls, 1 cup) intrigued me. Where's society headed? Will we all eat shit? What does the CUp represent? Is it the young generations desire to become unique and famous? Is that just a empty shell? Have we become a shallow society where girls eating shit makes a bigger headline than progressive icelandic artists.

What have we become?

8/10 cinematography was brilliant.

I think I posted last week that the film was incredibly mediocre. More like a dressed up propaganda piece. Even the "intense" scenes were vanilla. None of the supporting cast was compelling. Complete waste of time.

And @king Ale, yeah Chris Kyle wrote his own book. He wasn't very smart, but he could shoot a rifle.

It was also disappointing that they left out Kyle's general cuntiness, having Bradley Cooper cry because he killed some kid.

Yea American Sniper was really disappointing. It was full of predictable hollywood cliches but much worse it was slow and never engaging. The intense trailer was the only thing i liked really.

Even Marky Mark's The Gambler was better

Birdman: Liked the concept(or at least the way I see it) that the superhero here is his own conscience. Loved the acting, and Emma was hot af!

Under The Skin: Watched it after @swag's comments and fully echo what he felt. I was just like "wtf is going on here?!" Also, I think they should've called it "Under The Foreskin" considering the number of full frontal male nudity.

Hobbit 3: Meh. Lots of cliches and the boss fight with Thorin and that Orc thing just felt lame. Stupid move to just follow the damn thing when it's underwater. Like hello!!! He's obviously gonna wake up!

Of all the illogical parts in the movie, that was your problem?

Agree in general though, in contrast to what you said about Under the Skin, but I guess that movie really is extremely subjective, and depending on personal taste in terms of its rather unique cinematography, plot and pacing.

Just watched Inherent Vice one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I really didn't understand the movie at all, there were a few scenes i found very funny but for most of the film i was just lost and confused. I will definatly have to watch it again only i think i will need to be pretty $#@!ing high.

Have you read much of Pynchon? Familiarity with his writing style, and his circumlocutions certainly helps understanding him. Amusingly enough, Inherent Vice is probably his least confusing book, which would explain why it's the one to end up on the silver screen.

Two Days, One Night.

Another fantastic film from the Dardennes. Marion Cotillard offers her best performance since Rust and Bone, maybe even since La Vie En Rose. She truly was fantastic in this film. A very interesting parable, pitting an almost barbaric self-interest versus compassion and humanity. It's fascinating, the way it examines herd mentality, manipulation, and peer pressure in the work place. It wavers on the edge of melodrama at a couple points but thankfully never leaps fully in, and the story seems a little less organic at times than previous films by the two brothers, but all the same, it's a brilliant film about a broken woman's journey to self-discovery.

Hey, I actually saw that one

Liked it too, thought it did exactly what it set out to do, and in my opinion really exelled in portraying the variety and complexity of the situation and the struggles and dilemmas in modern working life in general. I therefore wouldn't really call it a battle between humanity and barbarism, as with nearly all of her coworkers their struggles and perspective are communicated in a very empathetic way as well, or so I've found (except for maybe that one asshole at the car repairshop, but that only shows the variety of facets of humanity and personalities the movie includes in a remarkably short runtime).
What is of course specifically noteable is the performance of Cotillard, though I found that the whole cast was exceptional in terms of how they managed to convey authenticity, which in general I think is perhaps the greatest strength of the movie. The dialogue for example isn't poetic or very quotable in any way, but realistic and authentic to the characters and situations. For me the film is also a great example of the "show don't tell" rule, as very little of Sandra's mental problems or her relationship with the co-workers is directly explained to the viewer (which would have taken the audience out of the film's immersion), yet everything is very clearly understandable.

There's a sequel called Manhood, to release in 2038, a moving 24 year epic. The critics are expected withhold their jizz for the next two decades.
