Every superhero movie, not made by Nolan, is. Avengers is one big brainless action from the first to the last minute and it is somehow considered the best thing since sliced bread.
The thing is, Avengers didn't try to be anything else than an entertaining action movie with a few laughs, something it has achieved almost completely. Of course you can say that you don't like these sort of movies, and that's fine, but it absolutely nailed what it set out to do.
Man of Steel on the other hand tried to be dark and deep, something that is arguably way more difficult, but also more satisfying when it turns out good (e.g. Dark Knight). The problem is, Man of Steel never came close to this level, and therefore is much more dull and bland than for example Avengers.
This is of course again coming from someone who doesn't know shit about the comic-book backgrounds of either characters; if what you said about Man of Steel is correct and the movie was much more satisfying for fans of the comics, that's a different matter entirely. For example, I think the Hobbit movies are pretty mediocre and at times silly, but the changes I would make would make them rather inaccessible for people who don't know anything about the universe and haven't read the book, therefore arguably worse for the general public.
