I do prefer the short version since I think that the long version goes just a tad over the top with the sentimentalism. I don't feel it needs to be that specific about what happened in order for the viewer to understand the emotional depth. Plus details as

and it was. Some sad parts were totally alive thanks to his music, it was absolutely brilliant. lol I can't believe you mentioned that one. When I was seeing Paradiso Cinema at imdb that movie caught my eye and I marked it as the one to watch soon.

The Legend of 1900 also has, like almost every Tornatore movie, a Morricone score. An amazing one as well. The film is not as good as Cinema Paradiso and undoubtedly has some flaws, but it's a very enjoyable watch.
