It's pretty damn European.
But the camerawork is absolutely beautiful, and the scenes are well thought out. The movie works as a series of vignettes and an underlying story of a man as a metaphor for Roma. But otherwise, there isn't any plot to be found anywhere.
Still, I liked it.

Both are masterpieces, but for you, Apocalypse Now (make sure to watch the theatrical and not the Redux) is the better choice. TTRL is not an action packed movie. Neither is Apocalypse Now, but TTRL is more artsy fartsy. Platoon might be your kind of movie. Try it out.
Awesome. It's an absolute masterpiece. As I said, make sure to watch the theatrical first. It's faster paced and doesn't include some scenes from Redux that are irrelevant for the plot. If you absolutely adore the theatrical version, you can always watch Redux later.
From what I see Theatrical Cut doesn't have many seeders
But it's worth waiting for. Redux is +200 minutes while theatrical is 150 minutes. Some scenes in Redux are nice, but other scenes are killing the momentum. Considering you thought a movie like Zodiac was dull, it's a no-brainer, really.

I don't mind watching the movie either way. So I'll probably download any and watch it. I don't think those extra parts would kill it for me.
Anyway I'm also planning to watch Schindler's List and The Pianist these days. I watched those way back when I was a kid, I wanna see it again now.

) The one that I'm downloading doesn't say if it's theatrical or not. All others say they are redux, though. And the one that I'm downloading is 720p (but I don't mind if it's worse but watchable quality).
That should be the theatrical version as far as I can see. Also, the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse is highly recommended afterwards. It's about the production of the movie which is one of the most infamous ever. It's absolutely insane to hear how much trouble Coppola went through to make the movie. He basically went bankrupt, almost insane etc.
